Buying the Right Size Box Blade

My B8200 is 2wd so i'm speaking from experience . I opted for the 60 instead of the 48 knowing i would someday be getting a larger tractor and I was able to use it on the 8200 but it was frustrating at times. Traction will be your issue, the weight of the blade helps when its in the air but as soon as its on the ground and working all your rear tractor weight is now gone. Tire chains help and as much weight as you can get on the back of the tractor (Filled tires, suitcase weights etc) will also be a big help.

FWIW I got a 60" blade for my BX which most people recommend a 48" for (I bought it before reading, and the 60" was cheaper than the 48"). If I'm moving any decent amount of dirt then I need to shift into 4wd, but even then I've come into times where I just have too much wet dirt built up behind the rig to drag it. It's a really simple fix (just lift it a tad) but for my situation I opted for the wider digging size.

I'd go as big as you can possibly move light material around with. As Shett says, if it's too much weight, just pick it up some. You can always go back for another pass if there's too much weight to pull all at once. I think you get better results on the final grading with a wider blade and generally you're not moving a lot of weight in the final smoothing. I'd rather take a second pass to move additional weight I couldn't move in one pull than need to take a second pass with light material because my blade wasn't big enough.
