buying used yanmar

Hello, new to the forum and in the market for a tractor.
I am considering a yanmar (US) YM186D it has the powershift
trans 4x4 and approx 650 hrs. I was wondering what the market is bringing on this model in the South East US.

The 2001 Intertec Used Tractor Price Guide lists the 186D between $2500-4500 depending on year and condition. The 186 was made between 1980 and 1988. Those prices are a little low for some areas of the country but it gives you a rough idea. A couple of years ago I paid $4700 for my 186D with about that many hours. It came with rear bucket, 4' landscape rake, 5' rear blade and snow chains. I live in PA.

thanks for the info thusfar. I have been told by the owner that to the best of his knowledge it is a late 80's. It appears to be be in great shape just some faded paint. it does have 657 hrs
and everything is in good working order. A price of 3800 has been discussed and I feel like that is pretty good deal. Is there anyway of telling from the S/N what year it may be?
I live in NE Ga and have yet to find anything at that price worth having. What is the reputation of these little machines?, and does anyone have more detailed specs on this model as the the owner has no paprework. thanks

carefully check the rims. the will have a date like 82 stamped on them. They will be close , if not exactly the year of the tractor. bw

Dandy little tractor, and becoming popular. You won't regret it. That price is very good. Parts are readily available as is all of the original factory literature. Things that increase the value are any implements, the optional power steering, front PTO, and turf tires. The only drawback that I can think of is that it is a short wheelbase tractor and if you want a mid mount mower then I don't know if anything other than the Yanmar mid mower will fit it. Of course it will use any pull behind finish mower or bush hog.

I love my 186d, and we use it all the time. I have the owners manual, if you need any thing from that. It is short, but it turns on a dime. There is lots of great support on TBN

BTW Len Sheaffer has a NOS Woods Belly mower that fits....

Mine was similar price, and equip in NE Oklahoma.

I have an early model (probably 1980) 186D with the powershift lever on the transmission. I have the owners, service and parts manuals, too if you need anything from them. I'm in NW GA near the AL line so I could be up to 3 hours from you. Nice little tractor, I don't really have any complaints about mine except I may need to do some alternator or regulator work in the near future. My machine is showing 850 hrs but for all I know that could really be 1850 or more.

Thanks so much for all the info. i went ahead and made the
deal for 3800 and brought it home. It does need a couple of items.
One headlight bulb and both U joint boot covers, but thats all I can find for now. Any part #'s will help. JeffRey we are nearly neighbors I am in Cleveland, NE Ga. Any suggestions for routine maintenance on the 186's will be welcomed as I am a bit new on the tractor scene. Ready to it put it to work on my 9 acres, i am sure i won't be disapointed. I would like
to go ahead and start looking for a FEL. What makes are a good match. This forum is such a great resource, Thanks
