Looks like I will need a starter for my BX1500, it will not start at times unless I tap the starter. Has anybody had any experience with after market starters? There is a huge price difference between an after market and Kubota brand starters. I have found some after market starters for $99 to $150, with a OEM Kubota costing around $400.

Have you looked in the yellow pages for 12v starter/alternator shops? Sometimes you get oem quality or better using them.

I was going to suggest taking it to a shop for a rebuild. It is probably something simple that a pro can fix quickly.

Sounds like the brushes are worn. If you can get replacement brushes you make the repairs or you could take it to a starter generator repair shop.
