I test drove a BX 1800 a few days ago and one thing that I noticed was that when the engine was idling, the hood shook quite vigorously. When it was throttled up some, it was smoothed out nicely. I have no previous experience with the BX tractors, and was wondering if this is normal? My Dad has a 1225 MF that I've spent some time on, so I do have at least something to compare to. The Massey is smooth no matter what RPM it's running, so the hood shaking like it did on the BX kind of surprised me. Also, this tractor had almost 7 hours on it. Is it still considered "new"? I know that's not a lot of hours for these tractors, but it seems like quite a bit for a "new" tractor. Any non-flaming input is appreciated.

Dunno but my L1501 (L185) hood shakes bad when I drive over rough ground (all the time) And ideas on how to fix it too would be appreciated.

There are no clamps, it just seems to sit down.

The hood on my BX 1800 doesn't shake at idle unless it isn't latched all the way. The only time the hood shakes is when I shut it down. As for it having 7 hours, sounds like it must be a demo unit. When I bought my BX 1800 it came delivered to me with .8 hours on it. If it would have had anymore than 1 hour I would have questioned it because I'm buying new not used or demo.

Thanks for the replies. As far as the hours go, that's what I thought too...7 hours is at least 6 too many for a new tractor.

My BX2200 will occasionally have a hood rattle when the throttle is at its lowest setting. My guess is that the lowest throttle setting varies slightly between units. Without a tach on the BX it's impossible to tell though.

Simple fix - move the throttle about a quarter inch.

At its lowest throtle setting, my BX2200 hood rattles like 1 inch hailstones on a tin roof. Which is why I never set the idle that low.

My BX 2200 has a hood rattle at idle. There is a partial fix for the problem mentioned somewhere on this board. You might search for it if needed. I installed two self drilling screws in the hood over the rubber bumpers. You can then adjust the screws to provide more tension on the hood latch which will modify the rattle some. It still rattles but not as bad as before.

I think the hood rattle stems from those springy motor mounts being a little too resiliant, the motor really shakes around at idle and when shutting down. I did tighten up the fit on my BX hood by squeezing the sides together slightly at the rear of the hood. It fits nice and tight when closed and the only time it rattles now is when shutting down the engine, but my remedy for that now is to simply hold a little side pressure on the hood with my left hand while turning the key off with the right. Maybe Kubota should include this proceedure in the operator's manual on next years models.

My BX2200 rattles at idle. It's only a 3 cylinder, so compared to a 4 or 6, you are going to get more shake at idle (fewer power strokes per rev). It also rattles like crazy when you shut it off. Mine had 1.6 hours on it. The dealer only had one, and it was delivered to me. It was splotlessly clean though. Smaller dealers may only keep on on hand and they demo it a little and sell it as new. Maybe bigger dealers have a dedicated demo unit. 7 hours seems 'used'.

I can understand folks wanting "brand new" when they buy a new product, but I guess I'm a little different. The dealer has to do some assembly and set up, install the FEL, etc. and I TOLD them I hoped they'd play with it awhile (preferably a couple of hours), even move some dirt. After all, it was going to be under warranty and washable, so I'd rather they found any little problems or leaks BEFORE delivery.
