BX 1860 Hood Fitment

My hood does not appear to fit well.

Up front, the headlights are rubbing the engine shroud. As the hood is raised, headlight housing tilts towards the engine shroud, scrapes it and then makes the sound of plastic about to snap. Then the lights just barely squeeze by the shroud and the hood raises to the up position. I checked and re-fit the shroud to make sure it was seated correctly and it made no difference.

Has anyone made an adjustment to the hood to provide a little clearance for the headlights? I was thinking about adding a washer under the lift mechanism, thus raising the entire hood assembly about 1/8".

Mine rubs a bit too, although not enough for me to have done anything about it yet. Don't know if it came that way, or I jacked up the fitment a bit when I removed the hood early on dealing with a block heater??

In any case, if after adjusting yourself to the point of insanity and it still rubs, YES, a few well place shims would certainly do the trick.

This assumes your bonnet or side shroud is properly seated, of course.

I have an early BX2660 and experienced the same hood fitment concerns. I shimmed the front hood hinge mount with some stainless steel washers just under 1/8th inch thick and everything aligns up better with no rubbing. Found it easier to do myself rather than getting the dealer involved. later in conversation with the dealer, he told me that he would of done the same thing.

I agree that shimming will be easier than involving the dealer. I'll give it a shot.
