While mowing with the BX 1860 what is the normal operating temp? Mine is just below the red (like a pencil thickness below the red) is that normal. The mower is new too, is just because of that?
BX tractors have actual temperature gauges that go up and down depending on tractor load, etc.
I think we get conditioned by automotive temperature gauges that are actually under control of an engine computer that show an "OK" status with the gauge until it is too late, and then the needle gets pointed into the red, for the ensuing crisis.
There has been a lot of discussion on this topic, and yes they tend to show pretty hot on the gauge when its hot out and they are mowing. I agree, its normal for BX's. Its improtant to keep the screen and the radiator clean. They get plugged up with grass really easy. It helps to take the battery out once in a while and this gives better acess to cleaning out the radiator.
