Bx 2200 6o\" deck noise!!!!

I have been thrilled to death with the performance of my new BX2200. BUT I HATE THE NOISE FROM THE 60"deck!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I don't know what the problem is, but this thing howls like a high pitched freight train when engaged and at high RPM's. Am I doing something wrong here or what? I have only had one deck this loud and that was a Befco rear discharge years back that had a bad gear box from the factory. I mean to tell you I had to stop mowing my front yard after about two minutes and put on Magnum ear muffs that I use when shooting. As long as the RPM's were way down it was alittle better. My wife and neighbor both said it was loud as heck and very anoying. My wife said she wouldn't mow with it if it is that loud she couldn't take the noise, muffs or not! I know alot of the folks on this site have the BX's so please for Gods sake tell me if you have had this happen with your deck and what did you do to fix it? I have had three other Kubota mowers in the past and none of them were loud at all. Yes for all's information I did give her fresh greese before I started cutting and there were no hot spots on the spindles or bearings so I'm at my whits end here. Trying to hear again in Delaware!! did you check the gear box oil level. And it maybe that the gears arn't mated yet. that is to say worn togather yet. You might want to let it run for a while at a good speed and break it's self in. just a couple of ideas others may have better. good luck. I love mine /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I did check the level but I will recheck tomorrow and see whats there. This is a new from the dealer unit first time out and they said all was right when it left the dealer. As far as setup that is. everything was said to have been checked and lubed properly. Thanks I will check. Did yours make a loud noise when new?? Bigguy

Mine (54") just whirs along. I don't run up the throttle though as it seems to cut well without having to crank the motor up. Will try mine tonight if I get home in time and get back to you.

Somethings up. It shouldn't be that noisy. See if your dealer will drop by and have a listen. I've never had anyone complain, though I habitually use ear muffs anyway (almost ruined my hearing driving a marina bull for years). I would check that the belt isn't hitting anything and that the idler is greased as well. Let us know what you find out.

How'd you make out with your deck??? Finally got a break in the rain and wound up my 54" mmm. It just purrrrrrrrrrrssssss.

Well I'm still waiting to see what the dealer says. They are installing the FEL this weekend and checking the deck noise. They shop[ manager did listen to it and he even said it sounded loud. So we shall see but I really think there is something wrong. One youg mechanic said it was just the noise from the hi lift of the deck. Buy I have owned other machines with very hi lift Hi performance decks and they aren't loud. So they are gonna check it to make sure whats wrong. I'll let you know. Mark

Dealer called today and said tractor loader was installed and I can pick it up. I asked about mower noise and was told it was checked and nothing is wrong with the mower. They told me noise is normal because of high lift, high spindal speed, high blade tip speed. Like I said I had to get ear muffs and neighbor thought new mower was broken or just very noisy. I'm still not liking the noise of this deck it is loud. Any other thoughts on this folks I'm at my wits end. Is the BX 60mmm deck really this loud or am I having smoke blown up my patute. If there are any dealers that have comments please make them to this question. Mark

Mine certainly makes some noise.. but it doesn't seem to be as bad as you describe. Sometimes I forget I have it on when I jump off the tractor to get something. Make a new post titled something like, "looking for BX near xyz" Then see if you can arrange to go see someone elses machine run. I'm guessing you may not have a problem. I'll tell you what though,... I can hear my neighbor 750 feet away on his Craftsmen air cooled while I am on my Kubota mowing! THAT is loud brother..

Mower noise:

Does your mower have different baffle/air discharge routes than other models?

Perhaps replace the gear box oil with a recomended variety.
Also check the idler pulley to make sure it has lubrication.

Take off the blades and run it. This should differentiate between wind noise and mechanical noise.
