BX 2200 - Engine Stops abruptly and will not start

I was mowing for about an hour this morning and heard a loud pop kind of like the sound of a 22 being shot. I kept mowing for about 20 minutes and finished. While driving the tractor to put it up the engine died out and now will not start. I am not sure if the popping noise I heard is connected with the problem. I thought at first that I ran over something but did not see any evidence.

The tractor manual says to the cause of the engine stopping could be bad fuel, fuel filter or to bleed the fuel system. Does anyone have any thoughts?

The loud pop could have been something the MMM picked up and the blades banged up against the wall. I just finished mowing approx 2.5 acres and I here banging every now and then, especially when I run over those hidden small branches.

Since your tractor continued to run afterwards I suspect you've either run out of fuel, have a clogged fuel filter or two or something got up into your fuel line and either cut or punctured it.
I'd start troubleshooting by checking the fuel level and then checking that it's flowing to and past the filters up to the fuel pump.

You also want to check and make sure uyou hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on. If you hear it running then also check to see if it's pushing fuel all the way up to the fuel shutoff solenoid on the fuel injector pump.
You should also hear the fuel cutoff solenoid click when you turn the key on and then hear it click again about 20 secs after you turn the key off (thats how it works on my BX23).

I did not run out of gas and there are no leaks.

Is there more than one fuel filter?

Yes, there are two. One is under the tractor in front of the fuel pump and the other is in the engine compartment. Do you hear the fuel pump run and the solenoid click?

yes the fuel pump is clicking and I hear the solenoid. I removed the fuel line going to the engine block and turn the key and there was a steady flow of fuel. When I try and start the tractor black smoke comes out of the exhaust but it quickly turns to white.
