I have a 2000 BX2200 that started to leak fuel from the tank. The leak seems to be from the top of the tank over the left wheel. Any one had this problem?
I have the same tractor. I don't know for sure, but if it is a small leak, I hear seal-all will stop any leak...even gas and diesel. Maybe some one on here could confirm that?
I've had the same problem w/my BX2230. I was told it's the seal/gasket on the fuel gauge on top of tank and if you don't fill the tank to brim it won't do that. I only fill up to between 3/4 and full now and no more leak. Or, you can tear it apart and replace seal w/updated version.
Toyboy is correct. It is a failure of the seal for the sending unit. There are several posts on the topic if you do a search. I am on my third go-round with the seal. The first updated one leaked as well.
It is a known defect but your tractor being out of warranty may raise issues. Sometimes a dealer and Kubota central will give a break on the labor.
Getting to the seal is a bear since the seat and fenders have to be removed. The seal (gasket) is inexpensive but the labor at a dealer is expensive.
When putting back the fuel gauge sender one must be careful to get it lined up perfectly so it doesn't hang up on the sides of the tank.
It is nothing to ignore since the fact that fuel can get out means that dirt and water can get in. My fuel filters were filthy before the gasket was changed.
Mine is a year 2000 BX2200. There was a recall somewhere around 2002. Since it is a recall issue as opposed to standard warranty issue, maybe the dealer will honor it. I think it comes out of Kubota's pocket as opposed to the dealer's dime.
Even my new tank will leak if I overfill it then drive slowly up the tilt bed trailer. There is also an overflow valve over the left rear wheel. At least that's what the service manager at my dealer told me when this happened right on his lot.
Reading what G.W. wrote above, and thinking about how my fuel guage is inaccurate, has me wondering whether the svc. mgr. might be feeding me a line, however.
It may depend on the age of your BX2200 for the cause of your leak. Most all original (2000) models had a problem with the tiny bladder tank which is separate form the real fuel tank. The fix was simply replace the tiny unit that holds about a cup of diesel. Later models seem to have another problem associated with the sending unit or other ports from the main fuel tank. Guess you should pinpoint the leak location before you make repairs.
