BX 2200 Model Year / rubber boot replacement

Is there anywhere on a BX 2200 that shows the model year? Second question is a little tougher for me to ask since my mechanical skills are not so good. There is a rubber boot on the bar that connects the wheel to the power steering on the front of the BX. They are cracked on both sides of my BX. The Kubota dealer here told me they could only get the boot with the bar and it was pretty expensive. My question is does anyone know where these boots or a good replacement can be purchased? Or would it be OK to just keep grease on the joints the boots cover?

The boots on mine are torn also. I have not even considered repalcing them as I would just tear tehm on the first mesquite tree I messed with. Try wrapping them with self vulcanizing rubber tape. you can find it in the electrical dept of most hardware/ home stores. It is rubber and flexable and designed to be water tight.

Mine were covered under warranty - I did not mention that I got a little too close to a fire one day, but then again, with all the **** defects the BX's had, I still sleep at night.
Worth a try if yours is still under warranty. And I still think they should able to stand a little heat.
Plan B was to wrap those rascalls in rubber and some tape.

Take some measurements and head down to the local NAPA store and check out the replacement boots for CV joints on some of the smaller cars. You might just get lucky and find one that will be small enough to work. They come in two halves that are glued together.

I have used liquid electrical tape or Plasticote (spelling) to repair boots and have had good luck, although I have just used it on smaller one. If you do use it, just make sure that the rubber is very clean.

I just picked up the tie rod end with boot it was $18 and some change from my dealer. It will sit on a shelf till the one that is torn goes bad.

You can determine the month and year that your BX2200 was built by checking the engine serial number. Details about Kubota’s engine code can be found here Kubota Engine Serial Numbers

Due to a lack of proper tools, I had to grind my metric 22 to a smaller width to get the darn thing to fit to change out the tie rod, just a heads up.
I am sure you would have found this out....
