Ordered the skid plate from Bro-Tek. Got it in a little over a week. Fits as promised, easy to install. It took about a 1/2 hour including time to find the correct tools. Pictured with drive shaft for snow blower.

Looks great, just like mine! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It took me over an hour, but most of that time was spent wrestling with the rear bolts trying to get them loose. Real nice fit; good design, Rich.

I'm thinking the tranny filter will be a bit tougher to remove when that time comes again, but I'll deal with it then.

Do they have a web site and how much are they? Where are they located? Thanks.

Good job graybeard,

Wow /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, your even faster than me to install them, I should sub the installation out to you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Note: I've noticed that you left the pocket door out. If you don't want to be looking for it this spring, you should leave it bolted in the open position.

I hope to get a web site on-line early next year, but for now you get reach me at bird68@nb.sympatico.ca

The cost is $160US, which includes Shipping it at your door.

Bird

Thank you for the complement. Well, I kind of cheated. First before I started I actually looked at your well written instructions. Secondly, I had already removed the MMM so there was nothing in the way. Lastly, I have a well lit, heated garage. I shouldn't lose the door, I have shelves for the tractor stuff, three point hitch, pto drive shafts, ect. Come spring I'll have to re-check the driveshaft for the MMM so I guess that time should be added to the time to install. Thanks

I did not take the backhoe off, so that added some time. I also did not jack the tractor up, which would have made taking off those rear nuts and putting them back on far easier.

No problems with the fit, though, that was perfect.

Radair,
Took me about 1 1/2 hours. Like you, I did not jack up the tractor nor remove the BH. The existing back bolts were easy with a pneumatic impact. I did purchase a pneumatic drill by AMPRO at Advance Auto Parts because it is extremely small and made drilling the two holes a snap. The main reason it took me so long is that I am not strong enough to support the skid plate with one hand and use the other to line up and attach the U-bolt. So, I had to place blocks under the tractor at just the right height and lay the skid plate on them. Also, like you, I am wondering if removing the transmission filter is going to be a problem without removing the skid plate. Richard says it can be removed thru the PTO access opening but by not having a pan under it, it's going to be a messy operation.

The skid plate itself is of excellent quality and the fit is perfect. I have no problem at all with its $160.00 cost. My "peace of mind" is worth that much!

Hi Larry,

Good to see that you & radair also got the skid plate installed.
It does feel better driving/working around, knowing that it's there.

When the time will come for the tranny oil change, please drain the oil first ( Drain plug access hole) before removing the oil filter. Once drained, there will be very little oil left in the filter. Put a small rag below the filter & remove the filter.

Where your photo? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I would love to see the BX in action.

Have a nice weekend.
Richard

Thanks for the web page. I thought that when I first saw this skid plate that it looked very similar to the design that it looked a lot like the one that bird had made. That is the main reason I asked about it. Again thanks for the page.
