There is a latch beneath the front of the seat on a BX 24 series tractor. This latch is spring loaded and effectively locks the seat down in the front and rear (backhoe) positions. While turning the seat yesterday I had something fly off the latch. It was a spring ...which by no small stroke of luck, I found.
I can not for the life of me figure out how to re-install the spring that clearly applies downward pressure on the seat latch to assure it grabs the bar properly. It also seems to be missing 2 cotter pins on the post that keep the seat latch from staying on the tractor.

Anyone have a picture of what this latch should look like when its working properly and attached to the tractor?

By the way, finished 50 hr service and it went very well. Only problem was my oil filter wrench was simply not small enough for the 2.5 inch filter. Forced it with a pair of wide pliars and reinstalled to contact + 1/2 turn by hand.

I thought that was it for a second there but....

The spring I am looking for does not control the slide forward and back. It controls the long latch mechanism on the under side of the seat that makes it grab the bar. You would pull this bar up to lift the seat to turn around to use the Backhoe. It would then latch in the rear position to hold the front of the seat down.

I think I can get there from the picture now that I think about it. I had not considered the shaft going throught the spring. I will give this configuration a try this evening.
thanks

Exact same thing happened to my seat.

I got it back on and "functioning" with the single spring and 2 cotter pins. It seems like there should be 2 springs since the single does not feel as firm as it once was.
It was just odd that both cotter pins would sheer or pull out at the same time. My guess is it only had one to start with and it pulled out when I turned the seat around somehow.
