BX 24 Stability

I have a BX24 with rear wheel spacers. It still feels unstable going across my front yard. Any thoughts how to make it more stable ?

I have a BX25D-1, and have never felt too unstable, but you may be in an extreme situation.

extend the backhoe on the up hill side , lower the opposite outrigger 1/2 way .

Keep the FEL bucket as low as possible. Lower bucket = lower center-of-gravity.

hills = running up and down them, and not sideways on them.

check your owners manual / operators manual, you should be able to fill rear tires with a fluid, and sometimes recommend filling front tires with a fluid as well. (it depends manufacture to manfacture, including model to model, if it is recommended to fill front and rear tires with a fluid. fluid filled tires help lower COG (center of gravity)

backhoe when in raised locked transport position raises COG (center of gravity), remove it if you do not need it, and fill rear tires with a fluid, and/or get a 3pt hitch ballast box on.

slower = better / safer within reason
faster you go more likely a bump,rut, etc.. can cause machine to roll over. soft wet ground can give way quickly and cause a roll over.

What about the loader?
The bare tractor is quite stable... remove the FEL and BH when not needed, such as for mowing, etc.
Also, make sure you have adequate air in the tires. If pressure is low, it will be more tippy. Adding fluid to the rear tires also adds to stability.

Do they make wheel weights for the 24 ? Or weights for the side of the tractor ?

The cab must raise the center of gravity and add to the tippyness. Fluid in tires + weights will help, but I would also look to put something heavy on the 3 point... box blade, ballast box, etc. Then you'd want to add some front weights so it isn't back-heavy. Pretty soon you'll be all set for the tractor pull at the county fair.

8/29/2015: I have a BX24 with 300 hrs on it. Bought in 2007.

Wide turf tires may be your solution.

After ten years of unhappiness perhaps you should consider a different type of tractor, or a Zero Turn mower. Consider carefully before weighting a tractor with wheel spacers, the potential to roll on a hill due to spacer loosening or failure is there.

If taking four or more prescription medicines the pills exacerbate your perception of instability.

Tractors with four equal size wheels feel somewhat more stable to the operator (Power Trac, Ventrac, Steiner) but cannot apply power to the ground as well.
