2009 Kubota BX25
Out mowing late this afternoon, its only about 80 here, and temp gauge got to the break between the white zone and hot zone. I had blown out the rad last week when I was finished, so it is pretty well spotless. Noticed recovery bottle is half full. I am running a 54" mower deck, grass is definitely not real high or thick or wet, and as well I am running a Kubota rear bagger. Its always ran in the upper normal zone but I'm really squirming at this level. Any ideas? Thank you.

My BX2350 did the same thing Saturday, except after I shut it down and checked under the hood and re-started, it pegged the temp gauge. I shut it back down and unplugged the connection for the temp sending unit and re-plugged it. I then re-started and the temp gauge was showing normal, so I think it was just the connection at the sending unit. I am certain this engine was not as hot as the gauge indicated. Just something to check.

On your BX 25 is the temp sensor next to the muffler like it is on the BX 1850? My 1850 indicates hot when ever the ambient temp is above 90 degrees. I removed the plastic engine shroud and installed a heat shield between the muffler and temp sensor to reduce some of the heat but it will still climb close to the red line when running the MMM on warm days.

Seems like if you do a search for this problem on the BX you will get a lot of reading.

Ditto...on my BX2660 on hot days of full throttle mowing. I never checked it out or worrried about it since it never hit the full hot peg.

Pull you battery and have a real good look and see how clean the radiator really is. Even if its really clean, they do tend to run on the hot side.

I think the problem is solved. Finished the lawn in about and hour and a half. I had read elsewhere about cleaning BOTH screens. I only knew of the intake screen on the outside. I would remove that one and blow air in from the engine compartment thru the rad. After reviewing the OM, I found that there is another screen with a handle on it near the radiator cap. Pulled that screen out and it was pretty clean. BUT between the screen and rad was a fairly thick, dense collection of debris. Took quite a bit of time to get it blown out, but now its spotless. And yes taking the battery out gives a better view, but the debris was on the other side of the rad. Anyhow, mission accomplished!

I use an air hose with a 16" wand on it to blow out all the grass and leaves that collect in various crevices and corners of my lawn tractor and mower, after every mowing. I,m always amazed at the amount of dust and grass that collects in the radiator fins, so I make sure and blow those out as well. I always give it a good wipedown, and very often give it a nice waxing as well. It always seems to run better, once it,s shown a bit of love. Lol

Same thing with my wife after declaring the BX2660 hers and taking over the mowing and maintenance. In spite of watching me clean both screens for years, she forgot. I noticed this one day and told her about the other screen and needing to clean it out thoroughly; quite a mess in there and surprised nothing bad happened. Like Guido455, we use an extension; got it from TSC.
