I hit 50 hours the other day, so I did my 50 hour service today. Aside from getting dizzy and sick from the heat stroke I had working in the 101 degree ("real feel") day, it went fine. But, the one step that I did not do was remove the transmission strainer. In looking at the picture here, http://www.messicks.com/Articles/KubotaBX-Service.aspx, I think I see what part they're talking about, but I didn't really see any straight-forward way of removing it or how it would come off. I guess it didn't help that my tractor is filthy underneath and most of the bolts have mounds of dirt on them. Can anyone remember, from experience, how many bolts there are and at what locations. I didn't want to just start loosening things without being certain.

Thanks y'all.

It removes with a 12mm socket. One bolt. The Messick's picture does a better job of describing the location than I can. If memory serves, it is on the lower left side of the tranny. 12mm bolt, then the whole thing slides out. Obviously you don't want any fluid in there when you take that out. Here is a link to my 50 hour report...

Nice. If it's just one bolt, I think I know which one it is. Thanks SingleCoil.

Fortunately, I had already run into an instance of not having large enough tools when I couldn't get my ROPS to fold. I bought a set of wrenches greater than 1". At the time, the largest wrench and socket that I had were both 1-1/16". Why is it that all impact socket sets stop at 1-1/16"? I also invested in a few more metric tools and some spotlights for working at night. Additionally, I invested in a new truck. Now I need a bigger trailer. So, this tractor that I got as the most cost-effective solution to my outdoor projects has cost me much more than planned! But, when I count up all of my regrets, I'm at zero. By far, this is the greatest tool I have ever owned.

It's a single bolt with a banjo fitting, behind the left rear tire.

If memory serves it's more like 22mm than 12mm, maybe bigger.

While it is nice to see how many shavings are in there and get 'em out, might be OK to leave it alone until next hydro change. NOBODY has reported one anywhere near clogging at 50 hours. A tiny pile of shavings is normal.

The BX24 manual doesn't call for cleaning the strainer until 300 hours:eek: Now, me personally, it's coming off at 50 for inspection/cleaning ;)

The strainer is a good indicator of the overall health of the tranny. I'd check it everytime you change the transmssion fluid if your able.

Yes, this is an old thread.
I just performed my 50 hour service. Only hassle was the oil filter. I have different size oil filter caps for a socket set, but it kept slipping. I had to get an oil filter plier. You need 12mm, 14mm, and 22 mm sockets. Definetely let the front axle case oil to sit 10 minutes and run the engine at 1700 RPM or so. I had to top everything off. The hydraulic and engine off have to be topped off, since the filters hold some oil. The front axle took a while to equalize. I had the backhoe off, so the hydraulic oil was easy. The strainer looked good. I was surprised at the color of the engine oil. It was a little dark.
It's easy, and you can save yourself a few bucks. I bought all my fluids and filters at my dealer.
Can't wait to get some seat time in this weekend.
BTW, I mounted the BH in a couple of minutes. That BXpanded dolly really looks good. It may be on my Christmas list to Santa.
