Mowing BX 60" Mower Deck Question....

BX 60\" Mower Deck Question....

My deck has a flat piece of steel mounted on the left side only in the front.... what is that for? I thought it might be to increase vacuum. The other side of the deck has matching holes drilled in it that would accommodate a similar piece, but the parts book doesn't show this as having a similar part on the other side.... I was thinking of ordering another part and adding it... if one is good, are two better??????

I believe that piece is to help keep the grass clippings under the deck and not to be thrown out the front blocking the grass from being cut by the blade or thrown up to cause the radiator screens from being plugged up as easily as on other makes.

but why is it on only one side? The deck certainly does throw clippings all over itself when cutting. Would a second bar help or hinder the cutting???????

I have something similar to that on My JD riding mower , they
were called "Leaf Guards" and are supposed to help retain leaves, grass and whatever under the deck.

I was unaware of Kubota having anything like that for the decks.

the blowout must only be a problem on that side.

If you think of the mower deck and the way the blades are laid out at that point you are ablowing the clippings forward and they had to put that strip there to slow it down and keep it under the deck.
