Is American Solutions still in business? I emailed them over a week ago about the grapple and have had no response.

Hey Matt,
I bought a grapple from Jeff back in January. I found out that he has a very busy business fabricating and building firetrucks among other things. The grapple is a side line. It took several tries but once I got ahold of him everything went smooth and the product is worth it. He even threw in a loader level because it took him a couple weeks to get it built and shipped to me. I believe there are also several phone numbers on the web page that you might try. If that doesn't work, I may have another email address for him.

Larry,

Can you post up some more pictures of the grapple? How was the install? I was just kind of feeling the waters out on the grapple trying to see if I would have time to build myself one. Time beign the thing I am shortest on lately.

I got one of these from Jeff and have found it probably my most used attachment. Install is pretty simple and instructions are very clear.

I've used it moving brush for chipping, moving rocks for building a retaining wall, moving logs and rounds for splitting, and more. I have left it on for loader work and found it didn't get in the way much at all.

It comes off and goes on in less than a minute or two anyway, so deciding whether to leave it off or on is often just a function of what I think I'll be doing in the next half hour or so.

I give this attachment two thumbs-up, especially when you consider the very reasonable price.

Here a bunch of pics of the diverter valve plumbing, the mounting plates, and the grapple installed (open and closed) as well as a couple of "action" shots.

:D

There are a pictures and a re-creation of the install thread I did here on TBN over at the
BX wiki
(check the navigation at the left)

Jeff is hard to get ahold of but worth it and he is a very nice guy.
Feel free to ask me anything.

I see you went with the switch on the loader handle also.
I had to put a little penetrating fluid in the switch to keep it working. But that's after about 3 years of use. Not bad for a cheap bat handle switch that's not outdoor rated.

I agree that the installation is designed exactly for the BX and was pretty straightfoward. The only difference in my installation was that , I too, was looking for a switch or a new loader handle with a switch built in. I did not find exactly what I wanted , so I used the switch supplied with the grapple and took an idea from another TBN'er. I did not want to drill a hole in my dash and ended up putting it in the floorboard on the left side near the brake hold. It is out of the way and leaves my hand for the steering wheel while I use my left foor to depress.

I have asked about 4 times for a shipping quote to CA, and I never have received a reply. Can anybody else tell me what your shipping distance and costs were? Thanks.

I think mine was going to be around 160 one state away. But that shouldn't go up too much until it gets out if the region. What will get you now is the fuel surcharge. You can call freight companies(yellow/roadway, ups freight etc) and get a quote from the Michigan zip to your zip. There will be accesorial charges for non comercial delivery, call before, if you want them to call you before they attempt delivery, redelivery charges if they show up and no-one is there to unload it.

When I got my grapple in Jan 2008, the shipping cost using Yellow Freight was $242.75 shipped to my dealer in San Jose (Lampson Tractor). They received it for me and I picked it up from them. I think the cost with depot pick-up would be similar.

Hope this helps.
