I had bad brakes.
I purchased a BX23 July 31.
I had a runaway tractor in Neutral August 7.
I adjusted the brake August 13.

The adjustment procedure is in the owners manual.
You need a 14mm wrench and a pliers.

Jack up the rear end and make sure the brakes aren't dragging.
The first time I adjusted them I had a dragging left wheel

Result: happy wife.

PS: I dropped the bucket to stop.
worked ok, I guess, but I was running out of runway.
I did this by putting the thing in neutral while stopped and it started to roll.
With a full bucket.

PPS: I'm giving you all this so you will find it amusing and adjust the brakes.

Brakes???? Are you saying BXs have brakes? I've never tryed/tried them on my BXs but I've never had mine in anything but Turtle or Rabbit. Where's neutral? I have had the runaways in 2wd going down hill so I always keep mine in 4wd going down steep or semi steep hills, especially if loaded.

jakell2010,

actually I thought I had brakes just that they were just very weak.

When I read in the owners manual that the free play was less than an inch I just about fell on the floor.

They adjusted up just fine.

Now setting the brake actually does something.

JOHNTHOMAS:

yeah, I was wondering about that.
No brakes on the front two wheels.
Breaking action only happens when you are in 4 wheel drive.

Except in my case, my front axle is broke --- at the coupling to the transaxle.
I'm waiting for parts.

Some day, I'll have 4 wheel drive.

radioman,

actually when I used to drive a tercel or a corollo fx that's exactly what I would do.

I'd stall out the car with the parking brake with the car in gear.

I'd test the brake, get the car set with the parking brake on, and have the engine in gear just in case the brake failed.

Brakes ? We don't need no brakes. We have buckets we can drop.

By the way, I also had a runaway JD950.
