I might catch up when I finish chipping the pile of sticks.
I haven't found a use for the shredder hopper yet, have you? When I feed small sticks in there, many just get spit-out the bottom unshredded. Is the shredder just for leafy green branches, maybe?
Since the shredder doesn't work too well for small branches, I find I have to bundle them and feed them into the chipper cute - slow process. Any suggestions?

The top-loading shredder seems best for leaves and such. Vines like tomato. squash, melon, etc. tend to wrap around the drum rather than being cut up. Small sticks often come out about pencil size in my experience.
Like you do, the small stuff is bundled and goes through the chipping chute. It doesn't produce many chips but at least they are uniform.
Apparently a screen with smaller openings is available as an option but I haven't pursued it. Not sure it would help much with cutting up the twigs. Maybe they would stay in the innards longer and get ground up.
My neighbor bought a stand-alone DR. chipper after seeing my BearCat work. My advice was that it is a "labor intensive" task and to be ready to put in long hours. Sounds like you found that as well.
When you come to replacement knives, Tennessee Saw and Knife has them at a reasonable price.
