I was just plowing snow with my BX1850 with the 2763A blade and while I was going up my drive I hit a chunk of ice with the blade which tripped the blade and stopped the tractor. When this happened I heard a cracking sound and when i looked down I saw little pieces of my engine fan shroud on the ground. Nothing was jammed in the engine compartment, I'm guessing the motor must have shifted and the fan hit it. There is no damge to the fan or the radiator but about a quarter of the shroud is gone. Has anyone had the problem? Will there be any problems running the tractor like this? Thanks Bob

in the winter it might not be too bad with overheating (might), but i'd be concerned about the vibration because of missing blades. remember that fan is spinning at engine speed. if you have KTAC insurance, it may be covered for the repair, minus the deductible...

Bob,
I have had the same problem on my BX2230 and now my BX2660. The motor is rubber mounted and will move when striking an unmovable object. We could find nothing broken on the motor mounts but they will allow for some travel. Mounts have rubber to reduce vibration. On the older tractor the dealer replaced the fan and shroud twice. On my BX2660 we just verified that the fan was not damaged (cosmetic only) or out of balance by visual inspection and made no repair to the shroud. The radiator is untouched. It now has the "Proper" clearance for continues operation. I have also ran this tractor hard in the summer with out any cooling concerns. I did have the dealer get replacement parts under warranty and I put them in storage in case I decide to sell the tractor in the future. I probably will not be selling anytime soon and they will continue to collect dust. They should probably open up the clearance on the shroud and this would never happen.

newtatoobob, This is very unusual. I have a 50 series BX as well , and no problems close to 500 hours. I cant fathom hitting an objecgt so hard it cuases the engine to lurch that far forward for fan to hit the shroud. Perhaps a few pictures should be posted here to help figure it out ?

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one this has happened to. I can't believe Kubota would not leave enough clearance for this. I'm just glad that my fan and radiator are fine. I think I'll leave it alone and see what happens. Thanks Bob

I will take some pictures tommorow and post them. I'm also going to call my dealer and see if he has seen it before.

I have had it happen to me. A good section of the fan shroud is missing. It has been about 2 years and it hasn't overheated. I keep thinking of replacing it but it will probably happen again.
