Has anyone out there with a BX series Kubota feel that there is quite a bit of pressure required on the hydro pedel when traveling in reverse under a load? I have a 5' rear blade on mine which I use pushing in reverse when the snow conditions get too sloppy for the blower, but my leg has gotten pretty tired after traveling the length of my drive a few times. I know I've read that the L-series HST machines have a pilot/servo arrangement that operates the swash plate mechanism in the trans to over come this and keep the pressure light and even. I wonder if this wouldn't have been a good thing on the smaller Kubotas too, or maybe mine is just not working properly, I have lubed everything on the linkage and it works freely under light loads. Anyone else out there like to comment on this or have any suggestions? I also used to have a '92 cub cadet with a hydro trans and althought the trans was a hand control it seemed to be unaffected by the load placed on the transmission, what were they doing right?

I noticed this same problem with my BX2200; however, I thought this was probably a safety feature. The problem seems to be in the leverage you can put on the short reverse portion of the pedal. I had a Ford HST with the same problem. When new, my BX would not stop immediately when going forward. I reduced the tension on the spring until the tractor had a few hours on it and this helped. Don't know what would help with the reverse problem unless the pivot point of the pedal could be moved forward a bit.

Yes I agree.

I hate that aspect of my BX. Wife doesn't seem to care! She's still excited about being able to do those things I never have time for. I also have a GT235 JD "tractor" that has the two pedal arrangement that I LOVE.

My bigger Kubota (L35) has the GST which I tolerate for the good points that I like, if you check one of the bigger HST Kubotas the pedals are much improved as you aren't (I think) really pushing the mechanism in the trans you're operating them by remote.

On my BX I've never mastered lifting my foot or rocking it without discomfort. I think it would improve with time. Now it seems I'm going to keep my trusty Ford 1710 4x3 up at my other property to avoid transporting the Big K so I'll never spend enough time on ANYTHING!

I'll be a little good at a bunch of machines and the master of NONE /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I have too noticed the difference in pedal pressure when under load or climbing hill with or without loaded bucket. I believe it is the way the tranny is designed, by putting it in low range the pedal becomes easier to push. Designed that way to save stress on small compact tractor??

Stephen,

I have a relatively new BX, and I've only got 11 hours on it, but iI put it in reverse up a steep enough hill that i finally got it stuck in the muck (the FEL got me out of that mess), and I didn't notice the pressure on the pedal change much at all, if any. I could hear the HST wind up, though. I have noticed that the pedal overall is a little stiffer than i was used to with my 3000 series Cub, but I think it'll get better with some use. Maybe there has been a design change recently that could help you...

Scrambler, I'm inclined to guess that something is not adjusted right. The amount of foot pressure required for my hydro pedals on the B2710 and the B7100 never changed. They were always easy to push under any circumstances.

My gut feeling goes with Bird, there is something else going on. I have 105 hours on my BX, and I don't ever remember noticing any overt pedal resistance. While pushing some pretty heavy wet snow falls with a rear blade, I spent substantial amount of time under the conditions described - no problem. Check the transmission UDT fluid level, it may be too high or too low.
