Any suggestions on fixing or prevention on the BX model tires? Someone stated they did not have much luck with the plugs holding. Since that was my plan, I am looking for other options. Does the Green slime help? Any other things to perpare for this inevitable pain in the rear....

When and IF you get a flat...have a patch vulcanized on the INSIDE of the tire...those plugs are almost useless

So basically, no one really knows a quick fix other than removing and taking the tire somewhere to be patched. Does everyone just keep a spare around to keep from losing a work day?

I did not have any luck with plugs on ag tires. I have had great results in everything else, (mower, 4wheeler, pickup etc) Now that I have the much thicker R4 tires I will try the plugs again. For small punctures they work great.
The carcass on the ag tire was so thin that the plugs had nothing to grip to. So I used slime. And if I got a puncture too big for that I used an inside patch. It is not too hard just time consuming. Take the tire off the tractor, tkae one bead off the rim, clean the slime from the area of the damage, scuff and apply the cement and patch then put it all back together.

I honestly have no idea how one would go about doing that. Does it make your ride rougher or more springy?

I will definately be getting tires since my home is new construction and there were large trash piles with plenty of nails in the areas where I will be working. I will be amazed if I dont get several flats.

OK, I had no idea this had do it yourself potential. I have repaired bicycle tires but never an Auto tire beyond the plug. So are any special tools required for the tractor tire or is it simply a pry it off the rim fix it and put it back. How does one get it seated? I assume it does not have a tube but could be wrong.

If you have never done a motorcycle tire or at least a bicycle tire then you could be in for a frustrating learning curve. I used some home made tire tools that I inherited from my father inlaw. Basically 3 flat metal bars about 2 inches wide and about 2feet long with rounded edges and curved over at the tip. I have used large screwdrivers before but it is easy to damge the bead that way. To seat the bead I use a ratchet strap wrapped all the way around the tread, this squeezes the tire and expands it so the beads contact the flange of the rim. If I was at home I would post a link to a website that explains better how to do all this but a google search on "remove tire from rim" should come up with some good stuff.

I'm running ag tires on my BX23 and I have at least one plug in 3 of its tires one back one has 4 or 5 folded in half in the same hole and I don't have any problem with that one either. I did slime them after after the last time I plugged them.
Braking the bead will be tough, (I use the loader or hoe).
Patches are easy.
Re seating the bead can be worse than breaking it loose.

I've had excellent success with the sticky thick plugs in 'clean' nail holes. But I guess it depends on the tyre and the use you put the tractor to. I'm a big fan of slime too. Only had one puncture that was so big I had to remove and patch the tyre. A plug kit from a discount tyre store is cheap so it won't cost much to try it.
