I've noticed that the tranny whines when operating. Is this normal? This is the first hydro drive tractor I have owned so I am not to familiar with the sound (fluid is full) . Maybe it is normal or am I just over analyzing? By the way I love the BX.. "To boldly mow where no tractor has mowed before."/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

my trans. dosn't wine but you can hear the the fluid work, more of a high pitch hum to me,the harder you work the trans. the louder it gets, and yes that is normal for a hydro trans. from garden tractor to heavy const. equipment.I have run farm and const. equipment all my life, a job a lot of kubota owners here might like,at least for a day or two. Back to you, yes its normal unless its absolutly loud, then i would at least try one at your dealer to see if it sounds the same or close to the same, I'd say its ok,but you may want to check another tractor.with out hearing it, its hard to say yes or no.

Mine does that also, another small LT/GT I have that is hydro also whines, it is normal and it will change pitch/volume under different loads. Unless it is very loud, annoyingly so or you hear funny crunching/grinding noises I think you are just fine. Yes, to boldly mow where no tractor has mowed before! J

I've been using a Hydro (Troy-Bilt 16HP GTX) since 1989. Graduated from a Sears Gear type. Every week for years I thought the Hydro was going to die (it whined sooooo much). It's pulled some serious loads. Change the fluid once a year and its never given me ANY problems. Last year got a B7300 Hydro. It too whines, but after 12 years of the Troy Bilt, I'm used to it.
Don't worry. . . .be happy. . . .

The hydro's do whine and I think it is a perfect way to check the load you are applying to the tractor. The higher the whine the higher the load. When working with the loader if you have one and on the lawn you should by the sound know before you spin the wheels maybe saving other repairs to the turf. If you feel yours is to loud go back to your dealer and ask if you can drive another one.

Also a new BX owner and can't believe how I ever lived without it!
I noticed that whine also - it seems to come from the rear of the machine near the three-point hitch. I was concerned as well, but, once again, I've found out that its not an issue - with the help of this forum!

My BX2200 was delivered last nite and I too wondered about that whine. I expected it when in motion, but was suprised to hear when not moving or lifting. As stated it sounds like its coming out the rear PTO. So far I am happy with everything except the hood rattle when I shut down the motor. Has anyone else experienced this and if so any cures?
Thanks

The hood rattle is probably common to all BX's (Mine does or I should say did it) I just put some self adhesive foam strips on the bottom edge of the hood. Made it a little harder to latch the hood but after it took to the form it's fine. Someone had posted a fix regarding pushing in on the sides of the hood (very slightly) but I couldn't try that on my week old BX just yet.
