If you want to shock the metal after heating just use cold "Distilled Water". With all the minerals removed it you don't have to worry about rust!!! Just blow it off with an air compressor when done.

Good to hear the bolts are loose. After the breaker bar and torch treatment, it's cheap insurance to reinstall everything with new bolts so they don't fail the next time you have to do it.
