My owner's manual recommends 10W-30 or 10W-40 engine oil. My dealer recommends 15W-40. I would expect the 10W- to provide better cold weather starting. Does anyone have any recommendations? I realize 15W-40 is typical for diesels, but the Z602 is not a typical diesel.

I would use the oil as recomended in the manual. If there is a warranty problem at least you will have the correct oil.

It is spring, so why worry about cold weather starting. Go to wally world and buy up some of the $12.97 per gallon Rotella Synthetic and it will be fine. Or you could just move up a couple of forums an start a discussion on the Oil and Lubrication Forum and it is guaranteed that you will get a lot of response. Do what make you feel good and fuzzy all over..... If you change the oil and filter at the recommended intervals, then that tractor will last into your grandchildren lifetime even if you don't use synthetic oil. Just don't skimp on the oil filter and buy a Kubota filter for under $5.00 at your dealer.

What would make me feel warm and fuzzy all over is to put the correct motor oil in my equipment. I contacted Kubota via their website and received the following reply regarding use of 15W-40 in the Z602:

"In the summer with temperatures above 70 degrees."

Based on their reply and the owners manual, I'll use 10W-40. Thanks for the help.

I emailed kubota about the same thing this is the response i got.
( Well i e mailed kubota to ask about the 10w-30 issue in the manuals and this is what i got back:

Thank you for contacting Kubota. To be honest, Kubota
has fallen a bit behind current technology and recent developments in the
field of lubricants. Actually, the recommendations published in our
operator's manuals is in the process of being updated to reflect industry
changes. Using a 15W-40 grade oil should pose no problems as long as it is
a high quality lubricant specified by it's vendor of meeting the
requirements of a compact diesel engine. Your warranty is not affected as
long as a specific engine failure is not the result of the improper
lubricant being used in your application. Seek a reliable vendor who can
provide a solid recommendation of his product. Again, thanks for contacting
Kubota

I love kubota. they responded quick and honestly no bull!
maybe this will help someones else's delema someday. )
