I recently bought 2.5 acres of land. There are no trees or hills on the property. The land is flat. I primarily will be using my BX for mowing the entire property. I'll do other odd jobs using the tractor. Because of a tight budget is the BX1800 a better tractor for my needs.

Are you thinking the 1800 and 2200 are different sizes? They aren't, only the engine is bigger, each is as manuervable as the other.

I would think the 1800 should do just fine for the needs you describe. I would get the 60 inch deck and FEL if possible. I do not subscribe to the bigger is better hypothesis. The 1800 is the same physical size however and I suspect that the extra power would only be noted during high grass and box blade work if then. If an 1800 is your budget limit it will do nicely, if you can swing the 2200 that is even better. Good luck. J

I also don't think "bigger is better" because you lose the ability for tight places, but a "bigger" engine at virtually no weight penality, and the otherwise same tractor seems to make alot of sense. All things being equal some jobs can be run at a lower rpm with the bigger engine. I just get annoyed hearing wound out engines (even relatively low rpm diesels). Of course some jobs you should be using the same rpm regardless of which engine you use as mowers for instance are designed to cut properly at a certain rpm.

I don't even know why they bother to make two engine sizes in the same weight/wheelbase tractor.

Unless you're going to be putting 3000 hours towing a light cart full of apples in an orchard and want a teensy bit better fuel economy, I see no benefit of getting a smaller engine. Actually, I wish the BX2200 had about another 1000 pounds and 5 more hp, but be the exact size it is!

Of course I want EVERYTHING.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

RCM; I agree that both will perform for you. I am not looking for the full prices, but out of curiosity, what is the price differential between the 1800 and 2200 that you are being quoted? That is, how much more are they asking for those 4 extra horses now a days?

If you can get the BX2200 for a couple hundred bucks more go for it, if not the BX1800 will work just fine. When I bought my BX1800 my dealer wanted $750 more for the BX2200, I couldn't justfy the extra dollars for 4 more engine hp which in reality isn't much. When you look at the impliment chart you will find that both the BX1800 & 2200 take the same impliments, there is just not enough of a difference to justify the added cost, when you look at the hp difference just think $$$.

Actually 22% more hp, which in a diesel means REAL hp, seems like with gas engines it's the torque specs that matter.

The $750 is about 7% increase in price. And you know it costs Kubota no more to drill the holes bigger and buy bigger pistons! It gives them all their marketing and pricing levels. I'd rather see less Kubota models, maybe it would eventually make the parts more readily available later.

Consider this: 22hp hyrostatic 4 wheel drive tractor
60" mower deck (front mount with high lift)
48" bucket that lifts 800 lbs not 460 lbs /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
rake
snow blade with hydralic angle control
Price= $9,250

Check them out at www.power-trac.com. Model is a pt422. I have a pt425 and love it.

I am going to try inserting a link, wish me luck /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I have BX1800 3.5 acers lawn,60"moer,211 loader, run 1/2 throtle for everything but mowing little less than full, book says full but cuts clean where i like to run the throtle.my lawn has steep hills, one reason for 4w/d the other is the loader. I didn't want to spend extra $600 for 2200 when 18hp is plenty.I could afford any tractor i wanted but i also have a ford f150 and not a mack truck. if all you want to do is cut grass haul a wagon, speader, ect.,you might want to take a look at kubota GT1860-18hp diesel lawn&garden tractor 54"deck for about $6500.00 in N.H.just food for thouht. but if you like the 1800 and have a sweet spot for it go for it you'll be more than happy with it.
