BX1800 Transmission slippng

I have a 10 year old bx1800 and the transmission is slipping or bucking going forward when climbing a hill. It doesn't seem to be a problem in reverse. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the problem. The fluid levels are fine.

Has the filter and fluid been changed?...Not sure if it has a screen...My BX23 does.

Does it "chatter" under load? If so, your hst's probably going south. That's what happened to mine.

Might be that just the forward relief valve is going on the HST since it is working in reverse. Testing this is easy if you have the work shop manual for your tractor and you would need to pick up a high pressure gauge and some hose and adapters. The dealer can do the forward relief pressure test really quickly, i.e. under a half hour when I have done it.

If its working in one direction but doesn't have any power in the other it sounds like the HST pump and motor is fine, but isn't building pressure in the forward direction which would be the relief/check valve combo on the HST. Again, the pressure tests can answer this easy. If this is true than it's likely the $150-200 for the new valve not $1500 for a new HST. Bad news is on these tractors labor is high to get to that valve. The dealer might find a way to get the valve out without pulling the HST but it will be a challenge.

Good news is Jerkyboy and I just got through a full HST replacement with the exact same HST if you have any questions.

One other point, don't drive it if you are getting the chattering and popping Jerkyboy mentioned, that may get you into the "replaced a HST" club
