This weekend I discovered that after mounting the BH, the FEL wasn't working properly...it would go up (sort of) but not come down unless I jogged the lever into the float position. Obviously not the way to do it. I called my dealer today and he said to check that all my quick-release hydaulic couplings are seated properly, that none are loose, especially the BH. I won't be able to check this out till Saturday because I'm out of town till then, but does this sound like a likely cause of the problem? Ever happen to anyone else? Did I cause any harm by using the float control to lower the FEL? Any comments will be appreciated cause I'm loosing sleep over this one.

Silly question, but, are the hoses hooked up in the right positions? Did it curl & dump properly?

I'd shut the engine off, relieve pressure on the FEL, break all the connections & reattach.

It sounds like you have a restriction somewhere.

What the dealer suggested is a very likely cause. If the quick disconnects are not all seated fully, the anti-leak valve that is built the disconnect in may not be opened. When in the float mode, the cylinder oil takes a different path through a third hose, not through the normal return path. That's why it would move in float.

Check all of the quick disconnects on the FEL and BH. In particular check the additional disconnects between the joystick valve and the FEL cylinders. One of those, that is normally not disconnected when you remove/install the FEL, may have been bumped or nudged and retracted enough to shut off the internal anti-leak valve.

Yes it did curl and dump, but not smoothly. When I get back into town on Friday night, I'll be able to check it all out. In the meantime I appeaciate the thoughts. As for having things hooked up properly, the only hoses I disconnected were those necessary to remove the BH, and those, I believe, are "keyed" to prevent a mix-up, right?

I just put my FEL and BH back on after a day of mowing. The FEL went on with no problems and all but one connection are color coded so you really can't put the hoses back wrong if you checked the colors. The backhoe was a different story :) I had put it in the back of the barn and didn't have much room to move it around once I finally had the two hoses put back together. You almost have the BH touching the tractor to make the hoses reach. Let us know what it ended up being!

Sounds familiar.....about two weeks ago I trailered my bx2200 over to a friends house to move some clay around that he had left over from running a new 200 amp service line into his house. When I got there and unloaded the tractor the FEL would only raise about 6" /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif . I checked all the hoses and they seemed to connected to the right hose and none seemed to be loose. I ended up using the bucket to scrape and push the dirt around and eventually got the job done. After I hauled the tractor home, I disconnected all the hydraulic couplers and reconnected them. The loader worked like a charm! Live and learn /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif....

That sounds encouraging. Though I'm gaining experience and confidence all the time, one of my big concerns, in addition to safety, is that I'll do something dumb and damage the tractor.

I've had this exact thing happen when I've forgotten to check to make sure the 3pt adjustment lever was centered (I sometimes forget to put it back to center after lowering the mower or 3pt attachment). you are right, its embarrassing, especially when youre trying to show off your baby...

Charliebrn,

That would be my hunch as well, when the 3 point lever is in the up position the loader will crawl, and if you didnt know what it was you would think it was binding on something, I just wonder if by the time these guys got it back home and redid the hoses they also adjusted the 3 point and didnt make the correlation.

No, I ran into the problem of not having the threepoint control lever in the center position early on when I first bought my BX. This time the problem was due to the hydraulic couplers being connected but not properly seated.....
