Kubota BX2200
We have a BX2200 with a 48' mowing deck. This summer had to replace head because of constant overheating issues. Since replacing head, sending unit, thermostat, and new temp gauge, still will get close to red after mowing for about 30 minutes. Not loosing coolant.

Blow/wash the dust packed around the radiator fins. You'll be surprised how much is there.

The problem is your 48' mowing deck is way too big for your tractor. :confused2:
The deck should be no wider then 60".

Anyway,

Are you sure it's actually overheating? There have been many posts about temp guages going bad, or the sending unit.

Has the rad and screen been cleaned out?

Have you made sure that there isn't a blockage in the coolant system? Not likely, but possible. Check to make sure that the coolant moves with the thermostat.

I don't think they were still making BX2200s in 2003. They came out around '98 or '99. Mine is a year 2000. I think it had been replaced by the BX2230 by 2003.

All the posts above can be accurate, HOWEVER, a BX2200 can overheat easily. The radiator fan sucks debris from the floorboard badly. The exterior screen can get covered in just a minute or two, depending on what you are cutting. Material also gets sucked under and through this screen. You must keep clean this outer screen, the inner screen, as well as the face of the radiator. When I brush hog in the really dry summer, I have to wipe the outer screen clean every 2 min. I also have to stop every 30 min. to clean off the inner screen AND get the central vacuum hose (plugged into the port in the garage) and use the skinny little wand to clean off the radiator face. After 30 min. of brush hogging, there will be a circle (the exact diameter of the radiator fan) of debris on the radiator face, completely clogging the fins. (The radiator fan just sucks that stuff in and clogs the radiator up very quickly. Other BX owners have reported this phenomenon as well.) You have to get behind the battery to get ALL of it out. Others use compressed air to blast it out from the engine compartment side. It has been as hot as 115 deg. F here when I brush hog. This, combined with the problem of radiator face clogging, makes me almost red line frequently. I just have to keep all the debris off those 3 places, CONSTANTLY.

What Tom said. I pulled my battery cover (to take photo for another thread) and it is PACKED with crud. Was spotless this spring, had just re-painted the battery tray.

Edit: I have BX23 with 60" deck and my needle never goes past halfway. Ever. And I live in Texas.
