My buddy who has a 2200 came over and tried to borrow my Joh Deere 31B Post Hole Digger. When we got it hooked up, it couldn't lift up high enough to get the bottom of the auger off the ground. Are there only certain diggers that will work w/ the 2200? Is there anything simple to do that will let this digger work w/ his tractor?

Thanks

I think it depends on how much he is short on travel. I have seen a modification to the Lift arms on the 3pt that will give more travel. Simply drill a hole 1.5" higher on the yoke of both lift arms and move the 3pt arms up into that hole instead of the original. This could give you the room it needs. I guess larger tractors already have similar holes to allow for different ranges of equipment and according to the dealer, he makes this change quite a bit to allow for subsoilers, etc.

I looked at the lift arms on my B6100 and I'm not sure there's enough room on the yoke for another hole.

But then I thought: If I had an adjustable lift arm on both sides the height of lift would be adjustable. I wonder what a second adjustable lift arm would cost....

Hmmm...good train of thought!!! Now, on the BX, there is room in that yoke for the second hole, so you add that TO the second adjustable lift arm and you'd have all sorts of height added! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm guessing the real challenge is auger length unless you are digging very deep holes. I'm also looking for a post-hole-digger for my BX and have the same question ... I'm reluctant to modify the tractor. Would rather work around with the implement.

FYI - just used my Worksaver subsoiler on my BX to bust up the ground for a new garden. Had to mount it on the 3pt in the field as it was about 1" too tall for the concrete floor in my garage. Once it was on it worked fine. I'll be taking it into a machine shop to get a couple of extra holes drilled in the shank to avoid this problem in future.

It's a trade-off -- great maneuverability and better stability from the smaller wheels, but a bit of head-scratching with some of the implements.

I have the Worksaver unit with 9" auger on my 2200. Works great. Once I removed the toplink and attached the arm directly to the tractor , I had plenty of clearance. I'm curious is anyone has used a larger unit on the BX.
