BX2200 - CAN'T FIND FUEL SHUT OFF RELAY

   / BX2200 - CAN'T FIND FUEL SHUT OFF RELAY #11
There are a lot of posts on here about engine halting and restarting readily. From memory I think quite a few had leaves or debris in the fuel tank plugging the outlet hole. When the engine shuts down and removes demand from the tank for a few seconds that provides for enough added "trickle flow" for it to run again a while, etc. The tank is almost impossible to get into to view what's going on there. They sell little endoscopes with lights and a camera no bigger than half a pencil you might be able to attach to your cell phone or a laptop and fish around in there to look for debris or partial blockage. Family had one down in LA doing that and the dealer (who was stumped) finally took the tank completely off the tractor and steam cleaned it, etc. You could also try supplying fuel from an external jug or "hose and can" rig to eliminate all the tank possibilities.

I lean towards the problem being something other than a shutoff relay or solenoid.

HENRO,
As I stated above, it always restarts immediately after "stalling out." It always cold starts (after glow plug warm up) as soon as I turn the key. It didn't begin doing this right after I changed filters. It may have been weeks after. I have experiences diesel behavior when filters restrict flow, but this is an immediate shut down with NO indication of power loss.

I know intermittent problems are the worst. I have a new Shut Off Solenoid and I'll install it next week when our weather warms up a bit.

There is a fuse that feeds the fuel shutoff solenoid. You might also check the fuses to make sure they are all seated well.

A momentary loss of voltage to the hold coil would be enough to shut the engine down. But the engine would start right back up.

The hold coil itself is not strong enough to pull in the solenoid plunger (if I remember right.) The workshop manual has a procedure for checking that solenoid..

A poor connection or loose/broken wire with ends that are still touching could also cause the same thing. It would only take a fraction of a second for the hold coil to drop out...
