I have a significant amount of fuel leaking from around the sending unit for the fuel gauge. It looks like the rubber grommet has shrunk and does not seal anymore. Someone mentioned to me that there was a recall a few years back for this.
Does anyone know the method for the fix for this? I have the sheetmetal off right now solving another issue and would like to fix the tank now regardless of my eligibility for the recall. My thought was to make my own silicone gasket, but don't know how this will hold up around diesel fuel. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There are several threads on TBN about the fuel leaks.

Here is a thread about most of the BX problems and how they are fixed.

Thanks for the welcome!

....actually I did find that post and it talked about the recommended repair kit.

I was trolling for a home-grown fix so that I can finish the project this weekend if possible, but obviously I don't want to jepordize my beloved BX so I'll wait to get the kit if that is what the members concensus is.

Thanks again

Eric,

I just got my used BX2200 (122hrs) a few days ago and while testing the tractor out never noticed anything wrong. On the way home with it, I stopped and filled the fuel tank full. When I got home, I was in total shock because there was diesel all over the left tire and on the left side of the tiller and quite a bit on my trailer. It looked pretty bad at first. Somebody before me had apparently backed in to something because there was a slight dent in the left rear corner of the fender and that sides yellow hazard lamp assembly had been removed.
The dealer said to bring it back and his mechanic would fix it. I watched and helped him work on it. Apparently there was a design flaw in the method that the fuel sending unit mounts to the tank. In fact it doesn't even actually mount. It really just "sits" in place in the tank with a rubber seal in place and all is just a snug fit. In my case, the bump that the left rear took was enough to lift up or cock the sending unit out of its seated position enough to let fuel leak out. The kit you install will have tabs that will turn and lock in to position and then locknuts will draw the small bolts upward to make a good tight fit of the sending unit to the tank.

This also fixed my fuel gage non-accuracy. Apparently the sending unit was able to turn one way or the other which did not let the float travel all the way to the top to show that I had a full tank. It was showing a little above half full just after I filled the tank. This was nice to get right too.

Good luck
Larry

Welcome to TBN. I'm not sure about a home fix. But maybe a dealer would give you the parts as part of the warrantee.
