Sorry long post:

Was doing my spring maintainance of changing the oil and all the filters on the 2200, and started the tractor up to check for leaks. and since I had the engine cover off I notice a lot of slack in the throttle cable, no big deal so i adjusted it ( had since turned the tractor off).

When I went to re start it I was reaching across and kind of did a " half start" meaning i kind of " bumped it and then immediatley tried to start it again. well it made a poping sound like a fuse might make, no start no lights nada, no big deal just change the fuse.

Well all the fuses appeared to be fine, but I changed them all anyway, I can now turn the key and the dash lights will come on but when I turn past to activate the glow plugs all goes dead, no start nothing, when I cycle the key again it takes a moment for the dash lights to come on, but still no go after the key is turned past the "on"position.

The battery seemed strong before but a put a charger on it anyway, sat for maybe 5 minutes and said fully charged. I am at a loss here and have no Idea where to start looking now. Can anyone help me please?

Thank you in advance.

Ah, yes the ha ha you cant catch me of diesel engine mining equipment.

I would pull the battery, fully charge it and take to it a repair shop to have it load tested and see if you have a damaged cell in the battery.

It may indicate a full charge but it may be laughing at you too:rolleyes: as a bad cell will do the same thing work and then not work, load and break the load.

My next suspect would be the engine starter solenoid as they will go to ground quickly if hot and shorted etc. etc. and then they will not work and drain the system of energy.

The last usual suspect is the main fuse for the system another " don't bother me kid I am working" the fuse itself may have a hairline crack in the fusible link that is not fully shorted/burned

Or the starter could be shot and shorting the windings until the fuse/circuit breaker kicks out.

It seriously sounds like a starter solenoid problem though-been there done that.

Please keep us posted as inquiring minds want to know.

The Kubota farm tractors customized and built By Elmac we used were beautiful machines which were used as boss buggies/personnel transporters.

Sometimes a bad battery will mess with automatic chargers and they will show charged. I believe most chargers are just showing no current flow. A quick check with a meter should tell you if your batter is low. A good battery should read above 12v maybe even 13 and be able to maintain above 12v when you turn the key on. The popping sound you heard, you say was like when a fuse blows, did it sound like an arcing sound? You may have a loose or corroded battery connection or ground connection. When you turn the key switch on and the dash lights come on try turning on your headlights to see if the dash lights go out just like when you turn it to "pre-heat" the glow plugs. Are your headlights dim or seem normal also when checking this? If your headlights and dash lights are dim I would lean towards the loose or corroded battery connections or ground connection or bad battery. The loose or corroded connection would explain the popping or arching sound and all the fuses still good.

Good Luck, Let us know what you find. :)

I had forgotten something untill the starter was mentioned.

While looking for the problem i noticed the starter was engaged with the fly wheel. I just used a screwdriver handle to push on the abendex and it moved back to the starter.

Do you think that I may have fried my starter and that is what the problem is??

By the way the head lights did work, and now they dont

How old is your battery?

Mine was always warm-garaged and worked fine. One day it quit after I left the BX outside in the cold for just an hour or so.

Starter engaged and froze, like yours. I also moved it back manually.

Bought a new car battery and hooked it up and all was fine.

I'm guessing battery. It was great right up until it was dead!!!
