BX2200 new ouner questions

What a great site. After a short time looking into it ( I am normally not this impulsive, but my grass is growing fast fast fast, and I am tired of the potholes in my gravell driveway)I bought a 2200 with FTL 60" belly mower and a back blade. It will be delivered tomarrow. In the past I destroyed my riding lawn mower by using it as a brush hog to clear some land. I thought it handled it it just fine till it died. I do not want to do the same to my Kubota. I have no tractor experience. I will try to take it easy but would like to know what are the really bad thinks to avoid doing to my machine, especially during the break in period.

First off, "avoid brush hogging" with your 60 inch finish mower, it is designed for mowing a grass lawn, not brush. For that you need a rotary cutter about 48 inch size. Some people are just hard on equipment, you may be one of them, no flame intended. J

If you tackle really tall, thick grass, you may have a dilemma. BX Owner's Guide says not to run unit at full throttle for the first 50 hours (page 21). But…. The RCK (belly deck) manual (page 13) says to keep the engine running at full throttle, for best results. Way I myself decided to resolve this was to keep on top of the grass that first season. By regular mowing, about ¾ throttle made for a good cut and didn't bog down the deck.

As Tres stated, a finishing mower is for grass (leafy tissue). If you have thick weeds, and woody tissue growth, a brush hog or rotary cutter is the correct weapon of choice. One on the tenants of equipment longevity (along with maintenance) is use equipment within it's intended design and bounds.
