Hello,

I think I have an oil leak on my bx2200. It isn't much, but I just want to know what I am dealing with when it starts leaking more.

Attached is a photo from Messicks web site. It shows the part that is leaking.

The oil appears to be leaking from the gold square thing to the left of the arrow in the picture. I suspect it has something to do with the axle, but I am not sure if it is the SUDT from the axel or if it is engine oil (rotella T 5w50).

It is a bx2200 with about 500 hours, no other problems. Currently being heavily used to plow snow! Any thoughts? Thanks

Wes

If I'm reading the picture right, you're talking about the front axle pivot bolt. If so, the following might help. If not, obviously it won't help at all!
My BX2230 leaked from there, and the manual states that that bolt needs to be tightened until a few pounds (see your manual, I don't recall the number) are required to cause the axle to pivot, with both front wheels off the ground. When I checked mine, it was totally sloppy, so I just tightened it up until there was some reasonable resistance to movement.
Hope that helps.

my bx2200 has 499 hrs and it is starting to leak in that same area, only one or two drops a week. I am trying to pin point the leak myself, I will be interested to see what comes out of this thread.

Yeah, that is what looks like is leaking. I haven't had a chance to really inspect it, since it has been used pretty much everynight for plowing snow. Hopefully, I will get a chance to inspect it more closely this weekend.

I'll try to tighten the bolt. Thanks.

I'll try to tighten the bolt.

A little dab will do ya. WSM says adjust that pivot nut until it takes 11 - 26.5 lbs to rock the front axle (applied at the "front gear case cover" ). It also gives a reference torque of 14.5 ft-lb for the nut, which is *nothing* for a bolt that big.

Mine was loose at 300-400 hours, but only took a fraction of a turn to snug it up.

I finally had a chance to take a look at the oil leak. I pulled the pun and tightened the nut. It took maybe a quarter of a turn.

I haven't had a chance to run it much to see if it is still leaking or not. Hopefully this solved the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
