My BX2200 has started leaking at the shaft seal under the steering wheel. I priced up a new valve and the dealer wants over $700 for a new one. They offer no rebuild kits.

Has anyone had any success rebuilding one of these? Is there a source for the seal(s)?

Thanks!

It is possible to rebuild it but you will get no parts or information from Kubota. The valve is manufactured by Sauer Danfoss and they have a PDF of the detailed service manual on the website. I can't find the link but if you don't find it let me know and I can email the file to you. Midwest Steering has a generic rebuild kit for OSPM series valves for about $50.00.

I went through all this a couple of years ago when I bought a BX2200 off Craigslist for $1,000.00 with a lot of fire damage. I had to rebuild or replace anything with rubber or plastic so I had lots of fun with hoses and seals.

Good luck with your project. Let me know if you need more details but it may take me a day or so to find part numbers or links.

Robert,
Thanks! That's exactly what I needed. Danfoss has a repair center in Wisconsin, so I'm calling them direct.

Robert, I realize this is an old thread, but can you email me the pdf or a link for it? I have a leak at the top of the cylinder beneath the steering wheel.

Just did quick search for OSPM and came up with this.

Tech manual with variations of valves made

Service Manual for OSPM

Seal Kit

These valves look complicated and have heard of people taking these things apart and not going back together right, document the position and timing/clocking position of every part in valve as it makes a difference in the function. When engine is off the valve is also used as a pump to move fluid in the steering cylinder.

Thanks for the quick response, David. Have you performed the rebuild? There is no way I can afford a new controller… It is only seeping (several drops a minute) but it makes a mess. I do most of my own repairs, and am fairly mechanically inclined.

Have not worked on these valves but do know you have to be clean and precise when putting back together. Midwest is selling one on their site that they are importing directly and a couple on Ebay close to the Kubota spec, but think flow rate and steering shaft end is different. The seal kit is $55 but whole valve needs to be taken apart for the shaft seal.

I looked at the pdfs. It does appear daunting. I am going to contact the Danfoss rep in Seattle about a core exchange for a rebuilt. Thanks for all your help, David.

I would try to find a local good hydraulics shop and see if they can rebuild for you, the rebuild kit at $55 is not a bad deal, Midwest steering even sells the valve for $479 which is quite a bit cheaper then the $700 range that Kubota wants.

Here is a place that rebuilds them for $550 but their price is more then the Midwest one but there is a $150 core charge so it drops the price some.

Probably lowest cost would be to remove yousrelf, get kit and take to local shop or friend that knows how to do it.

I just spoke with my local Danfoss rep in Seattle and he quoted me $350 for a new one. He is checking on a rebuild. I would be willing to try the rebuild myself, but it looks like there are some proprietary tools, and the time it would take just doesn’t pencil out. Thanks for following up, David. I will let you know the outcome.
