BX2200 Tiller Choice?

I am a newbie BX2200 owner and would appreciate advice from more seasoned owners about tillers for the BX. I have about 4 acres of alfalfa to mow and till under this summer in preparation for prairie seeding this fall. I am in central Iowa and have loamy soil, so no clay or particularly hard ground to deal with. However, there will be repeated working of the ground all summer to a depth of about 2-2.5" every 2 weeks, so I am looking for a good sturdy unit (and preferably the widest possible to minimize tilling times all summer).

What size tiller can the the BX handle and what mfgs/models do you recommend?

You should be able to run a 48" tiller behind a BX200. All the name brands make good units so you will have to see whats available in your area at a good price.

Tilling goes pretty slow I would guess it would take most of a day to till 4 acres.

Also alfalfa roots go deep. I've heard up to 8 feet or more. I don't think tilling will kill it. Around here they spray old alfalfa fields in order to kill it before replanting. You may want to check in to having it sprayed then maybe somebody with a no-till drill could plant it for you. Would save a lot of hours on the BX.

I've used Kubota and Befco, the Befco was better. IMHO
