I am getting a very annoying vibration noise. Have traced it to the mower height adjustment knob in front of the seat. The shaft is rattling against the frame. The knob will pull off, however the shaft piece has no play to get in there and the hole is so small. Any ideas short of ear plugs to correct this minor problem? Its getting to be like "let me know when this sound gets to be annoying?

The only suggestion I have is to make sure that the vibration is really in the height shaft and that it is not caused by a blade that is out of balance. Also make sure that the blades are set the way it shows in the manual. For some reason that really makes a difference in the noise level and the efficiency of the three blades

Howdy Hog, Ok here it is a real easy fix for your vibration problem. If it is in fact the shaft vibrating against the frame try this. Take a piece of heavy rubber gas line or vacuum line with an inside diameter alittle larger then the OD of the shaft. Cut it to length so that when the knob is reinstalled on the shaft it puts a slight pressure on the top of the hose that you have slid down over the shaft to buffer the vibration on the frame. In other words make a sleeve that slides down over the shaft keeping it from contacting the frame. You can also use the clear braided hose like you use to hook up a faucet sprasyer on your kitchen sink. We used to use this method to isolate pipes from vibrating and it worked like a charm. Cheap and quick and will last for a long time. Bigguy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replies. The noise is definitely coming from the shaft piece because as soon as you put any type of pressure on it the noise stops instantly. The mower deck and blades are balanced and silky smooth quiet. I will give the piece of hose a try. As of right now, my only concern is the extremely limited amount of space between the shaft and the pre drilled hole. There is next to no give in trying to moving the shaft
and knowing my luck, well, we won't go there. If all else fails will just drill a smaller hole behind the original one and take out the small piece. A little more "air cooled" ride.
