What does kubota mean when the say" limited catagory 1 3-point hitch"? What are the limitations when compared to a normal 3-point hitch? Will standard cat.1 implements work as long as they dont weigh to much?

The BX tractors have a category 0 tph with cat 1 pins. Ideally you should buy implements designed and built for subcompact machines. Subcompact implements are a little smaller and lighter than true cat 1 implements.

I have a cat 1 5 foot scraper blade and it hooks right up to my tph but Kubota says I should use a 4 foot blade. Bottom line is most cat 1 implements should hook up but they may not perform perfectly due to the size or weight of the tractor or length of the tph arms. you will have to experiment a little to see what fits and if it actually works to your satisfaction.

Cokeman,

Sometimes I feel like this is the case...but I also doubt it is.

Now I don't know. But I do I want to ask if you have compared the cat 0 and BX specs and came to this conslusion, or if you are just winging it with your statement?

No doubt the BX 3PH is lacking as far as being a cat 1. I am not disputing that in any way. But somehow, without really knowing, I can't help but think the BX 3PH is at least a bit larger than a cat 0.

Myself, I always think of it as a cat 0.5... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In my experience with the BX, the limitation comes from ground clearance issues. I have a landscape rake that the tractor will pull very well, but I can not lift it more than 3-4" off the ground when the rake is adjusted for use. I have also had this problem with a borrowed back blade.
This is why I advise prospective BX buyers to think about how important using 3pt hitch implements is to them. I am happy with the tractor, but 3pt implement usage is not a big item for me. If it was, I would buy sub-compact implements like the ones from KK and Woods.

This is not correct. I have a BX and also an older Honda 5518 which has a Cat 0 3ph. The Honda's hitch is physically smaller all around, it will not lift as much weight and if I want to use any Cat 1 implements, I have to change pins AND mount them facing inwards. I can get away with this on certain implements such as a 4 ft grader blade.
Now, my BX does not have the lift capacity or lift height that my B2410 has and I would not attempt to try to use my 5 ft rear snowblower with it or my 5 ft box blade, but all other implements work as well with the BX.
I am certain Kubota is acknowledging the weight and height limitations of the BX 3ph only when they make that statement.

I have a BX23 and so far I have 3 different implements for it - a Woods GBC48 Box Blade - which is their "Estate Series" made for the SubCUT tractors, a Kioti RB22-60 rear blade (made by Midwest) - which is a full Cat1 compliant blade, and a Speeco Cat1 quick hitch. Both the Speeco and the Kioti rear blade fit right on the 3pt on the BX with no problems. The problem I did find with the rear blade is that I did not have the lift height to get the thing off the ground. The Woods box blade also fits right on the 3pt with no problems and has good lift height with no modifications - as it should. I believe the difference between "limited" Cat1 3pt's and full versions are simply lift height and lift capacity. The Woods box blade I believe is made to be slightly lower to the ground than a regular Cat1 box blade would be. If you think about it this makes sense - the ground clearance on a SubCUT tractor is probably about 6 inches lower than a typical CUT size tractor - which means the whole 3pt mechanism on the SubCUT is that much lower to the ground also. This limits your lift height quite a bit. I fixed the lift height problem on my rear blade by extending the lower mounting points down about 6 inches and now the blade has more than adequate lift height. ( see attached picture).

Henro,

I got that info right from my owners manual.

I agree with your comments though. I think Kubota calls the tph cat 0 just to cover their buts a little. Why would they put cat 1 pins on the thing if they didn't want us to hook cat 1 implements up to it? I don't intend to buy any subcut sized implements because they will be to small if I ever move up to a CUT. I don't want to buy implements twice.

Perhaps this is the case with the 1500, but not the 2230. The owner's manual specifically states that it is a SAE Category 1. It even proceeds to give implement specifications that are acceptable.
