I've never used on before but I'm going tobe doing some work in upstate NY this winter and know it will be colder.

Since the 2230 does not have a spot on the block for a true block heater, what is everyone using?

Actually, there is. I recently posted the install of my block heater on my BX2350 here as a project. Im sure a quick search will turn it up. The instructions said it was for the 2230 as well. I do believe it was for all D902 engines as well as the BX1830 engine. In the project I posted is a pic of the block heater as well as the part number.

Did the search: Part number 70000-00771

My dealer charged me $75 for a heater, installed. I think he said it was not a "block heater" but instead heats the coolant fluid. Does that make sense? Anyway, he said that it will really help getting it started when it is cold, and will significantly reduce engine wear in cold weather. He said, even at -20 Fahrenheit, plugging it in for 1-2 hours should do the trick. I haven't had to use it yet, but it won't be long now (I hope).

Scrounger,

The block heater for the BX2230 is part number 70000-00771 and is as Charlie says, for the 2230 as well as other models. I believe it will fit all 902 engines. I just picked mine up from the dealer today, and when I have time I will install it.

Instructions say "Applications: BX1500, BX2230, BX2350 all models." The instructions also say "For Kubota equipment utilizing engines with 25mm freeze plug."

Take the number to the dealer, as it apparently does not show up in a search of the electronic parts. My dealer added a note it into his parts manual noting what it will fit. The part is about $74.00 and the heater hose one is about $35.00. Dealer installation is extra.

The dealer had first sold me a heater that went in the lower radiator hose, and while it will fit, it looked like more work to fit it in the tight space. Then there is some question as to if the upgrade alternator kit would fit with the heater installed. This hose heater is also a proper heater for the BX2230.

The lower radiator hose heater sounds like what proudestmonkey had installed by the dealer and will work about as well as the one in the block, so the choice is yours.
