Just assembled bx 2750 snowblower attachment, for 2230 - all seemed to go well except I have a question - very very noisey -loud whirring/whine) seems to come from chain area - is this normal ?
Yep, what you hear is the 2nd stage fan inside of the blower. Did you check the oil level in the blower and oil the chain, and grease the fittings on the blower and PTO shaft? If so, you should be OK, mine make a lot of noise too.
When I first fired up my BX2750 I called the dealer and told him it was scary noisy. Something had to be wrong. He said no, that's just the way they are. That was three years ago and it's been working just fine, and is still just as noisy as ever. I guess I'll start worrying if it ever gets quiet.
BTW: I recently added a 60" front blade. What a hoot! It’s much quicker for the little 2" to 4" snow falls that we seem to get rather frequently. Oh, and it’s VERY quiet.
Make certain there is oil in the gearcase (that's on the auger shaft).
One thing I do when a chain is new is to heat it up by running it easily or by placing it in an oven. Basically, get it warm and then dunk it in a bowl of 80w gear oil. The oil will travel immediately into the bearing surfaces inside the chain. The life of he chain will get longer by doing this.
During the snow season, I also use chainsaw bar oil to lube the chain bewteen snows. The sticky bar oil will adhere to the outside of the chain better than regular gear oil.
You should hear a significant about of whirling sounds. The impeller fan will begin to make a low rumble at full throttle. This is all good. If you hear any clanging or banging noise, then your impeller is possibly bumping into a weld that is too tall. That happened to mine. I ground the weld slightly and all is now quiet.
