BX23 Arrives...Receives \"It\'ll dig\" Rating!

Well as promised the BX23 was ready and waiting to be picked up this morning at 10:00. When I told my father who is a heavy equipment operator, and has been for 35 years, that I was buying the BX23 he basically said "why, you're not going to be able to dig anything with that".

I got the BX23 home and played....er..worked /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif for about 30 minutes and then I saw my father pull into the driveway. I rolled the BX23 backout in to the yard and he started to work with it. He really had it working and was able to redirect some surface water that was coming underneath an old rock wall across the lawn.

After he was done I asked what he thought. He said that would take him some time to get used to the controls....but "it'll dig". Then he said after christmas how about trailering it to his house to do some work!!! I think he was surprised how good it was working.

Thought I'd let everyone know that it received high marks!!

Makes a believer out of every skeptic that sees what it can do.... enjoy the new machine..... won't be long before you will be asking about the 50 oil change and what to use.... you are bound to get 50 different opinions... If you like, you can come and help me do mine.... I at 42 hours now... What dealer did you purchase it from??????
I think that now that you want to join the Northeast CT TBN chapter, and we will have 2 BX owners, that we might have to start a sub chapter next......

Junkman.........Do they offer a bobcat style quick- attach for the front of the BX23 ??? I thought I may replace one of my smaller skid steers with a compact TLB and it would be nice to interchange attachments............TOM

I have never seen one and I don't recall anyone here ever mentioning anything about them. The only thing that you can attach to the front of the BX requires that you first remove the loader. The snowblower has a sub frame attachment, as well as the plow. I believe that the sweeper also requires this sub frame. I have yet to get a definitive answer if the sub frame can be left in place while you are using the MMM and / or the loader attachement..... Anyone know for sure?????

No way to use a mmm with the quick hitch subframe on.

I will go out on a limb and say no to using a loader with the quick hitch subframe either.

I have a pic of one but it is too large to attach,If you want to see it send me an email address I will be happy to forward it to You for Your scrutiny.

Other issues with a "quick attachment" on a BX-23 or BX-22 or BX whatever include the need for smaller implements due to size and weight considerations as well as the single curl cylinder that's in the middle rather than two on the arms like larger machines use. That would make for a more complcated arrangement. Given that the maximum load you can lift with the FEL mechanism is considerably less than a skid steer...'probably not work the cost it would take to convert.

Re: BX23 Arrives...Receives \"It\'ll dig\" Rating!

I bought the tractor at Kahns in North Franklin. I was happy with the deal and the treatment I received at the dealership. Two years ago I had gone there to check on a price and was surprised how much more expensive they were. I ended up buying the BX2200 elsewhere. They were very competitive this time based on what I see on the board for pricing. The deal was quick and they were very helpful. I took my tractor to the dealership to trade it and when I got there I remembered that I had left the mount for the snowblower shute on the FEL control. I asked the salesman if they could remove it from my tractor and I would pick it up and attach it myself to the BX23 when I got it home. Not only did they remove it and install it on my new tractor, they also remembered the hose guide that installs on the front of the tractor. Great attention to detail and customer service in my opinion.

As far as leaving the front quick mount attachment on while using other attachments. The front quick mount uses the same holes at the bracket for the MMM, so you would have to take the quick mount off for the MMM. You could leave it attached to the tractor with the FEL, but there would be an issue with two extra hydraulic lines. I don't think it would be worth the risk of damaging the quick mount or the hoses since it only takes about 2 minutes to remove the mount. I also don't see any advantage to using front mount attachments with the FEL still attached and not connected since you need the hydraulic lines to run the quick mount.

I think the way winter has started here 50 hours of snowblowing isn't too far away! I'd like to hear any suggestions you have after your 50 service.

Re: BX23 Arrives...Receives \"It\'ll dig\" Rating!

Here is what I did for the 50 hour service some 110 hours ago, here are the things I learned…..

1. To remove the engine oil filter you will need a filter wrench, the type that fits on the end of the filter with a hole in the center for a wrench. After trying to fit on a standard handle type wrench for 20 minutes, I gave up, when to the auto parts store and spend the $5.00 for the correct tool, you know what they say about having the correct tool for the job! A black wire bundle is right in the center of the filter, very little room to work. You would think the Kubota engineers could have thought that one a little better!
2. If you drop the front bracket for the 60" mmm and remove it , and turn the front wheels to the right, you can get the pan under drain plug to remove the oil.
3. I put in 3 quarts of Kubota 15-40W oil, book says it will take 2.6 quarts, not sure if this with changing the filter. Question, even with 3 quarts I am only about half way to the upper mark, did you fill yours to the top mark?, or is the middle OK???
4. Removing the transmission filter was not a problem, did not have to remove anything. The same wrench I used for the oil filter fit the transmission filter.
5. Removed the transmission screen it had some fine metal pieces, cleaned it out, and reinstalled.
6. I also removed the oil in the front axle, glad I did, as the oil was much darker towards the end. Remember to remove ALL of the breather plugs on the top of the wheels, I forgot to remove the plug on the right wheel, when I did, the liquid level dropped about an inch. I had trouble seeing how much oil was on the stick. So I used a piece of paper and laid the stick on it, now I could see where the liquid level was, worked great.
7. To fill the transmission, I took a funnel and put a 3 foot section of clear hose on it. Was just enough to reach the hole and stand up while pouring.
8. I think next time I will put some plastic on the garage floor to keep the oil from getting on it. No matter how careful you are, some will get on the concrete, well as careful as I was this is!

I bought a 5 gallon pail of Kubota Super UDT oil, glad I did, I would say I have less then a gallon in the can. I think with this much fun yesterday I will change the oil and filter every 50 hours instead of 100 hours! I hope this helps other back yard mechanics. Total time was about 3 hours, start to clean up. I hope when I go out to the shed in a few hours we have no leaks on the floor!

Hope it helps.
