OK, this is my second shot at this question. The first one had no responses so I am hoping that more people have had a chance to do this. Can anyone give me any idea how to check/change the gear lube in my bagger?

Alos, I have a spreader that states it requires an oil change, any idea on that? I searched through the spreader book, written in a full five languages, and find no drain plug, fill plug, check plug, but it does mention that the gear oil needs to be changed yearly.

Sorry, no direct knowledge of your setup. But, my Bush Hog 286 (rotary mower) has no drain plug, just a fill plug and overflow plug. Onsight came over one day and helped me lift the Bush Hog up (using thetractor pallet forks) and we drained the 80-90W out the overflow plug, then refilled it. We just lifted and tilted the rotary cutter with some chains. Worked fine.

I'll try to get some pictures if you want, but here is a start. There are two gear boxes, the filler at the impeller is easy to see just remove the rubber plug and the filler plug is under that. The drains for both are under the "L" shaped bottom of the box that holds the gear boxes. The filler for the drive shaft gearbox is under the 3-point top bracket. To change the oil, first you need to remove the vac from the tractor. Then remove the bottom half of the box section and last remove the top bracket. After that it's easy to see the drain and filler plugs. I used 85w-90 GL-5 full synth oil. It doesn't call out where the full line is, so I filled it just over the top of the gears. If you need more, I'll try to get some pictures.

Thank you very much, this is a great help. A photo would be awesome if you had a chance. Thank you, I owe you one.

First picture if the filler plug opening for the impeller end gear box. Yes, it calls out EP 5 and I used GL 5. They are about the same weight oil, but I could only find EP 5 in 55 gallon drums as it is for factory machines. Also my dealer said they use GL 5 when they do changes at their shop. Yes, it calls for 5 oz. and I rough guessed that amount on the bottle which seems to be just over the gears.

Second picture shows that you need to remove the three point bracket to get at the filler plug for the shaft end gear box. Good thing it only needs to be done every 300 hours!

Last picture is looking up from the ground at the bolts that need to be removed on the box section to get at the drains. It's not really a hard job but it does take a little time. Richard
