What you are referring to is a ditching bucket.
The BX23 will be unable to handle a larger
bucket capacity.
Not wanting to throw eggs before the the holiday,
you will have to dip short unless you can build or
have built a concrete ditch to allow the dirt to
settle out by creating a curb at the end of the
basin and allow the water to drain away and
eliminate that issue.

There was a thread on this site a few years back where someone posted pictures of a 24" bucket he made or adapted and put on a BX. He used it in the same way you described, and if I seem to remember it worked out just fine.
I have been unable to find the thread - just other people mentioning remembering it, so I'm at least not imagining things. Perhaps that person is still active and will post info about it.

Sorry, I'm not up on the terminology, I googled bucket types and the closest thing to what I'm looking for was called a sand bucket.
I was thinking light duty since I'd only be scooping muck, hence was hoping the BX could handle a 24" bucket. Aluminum even perhaps? I'll search for the old post you mentioned rayco.
Best solution is probably to bite the bullet and rent a mini excavator for a few very long days. I suppose a tractor backhoe set-up is impractical b/c there is no way to scoot along sideways. Great for making a ditch, terrible for maintaining one, unless it's narrow enough to straddle. Thanks for your help guys.
