Kubota BX23
Working today making a road across a slope.
Loaded the bucket and reversed whilst turning so I could tip the dirt off the edge of the road.
Hit a rock with the front wheel and bounced.
Next instant the BX23 was on its side with me still in the seat.
Thanks to the seatbelt and rops I was unhurt. A little shaken but fine.

Dragged the BX back up with my 4-wheel drive.

All ok.

David,

Glad all is OK with you and your tractor.

Couple questions come to mind. Were you on the slope, or on a level (already dug out) part when you hit the rock? Roughly how high was the loader bucket?

Curious, but did the tractor go over pretty fast? Or relatively slow? Was the backhoe on at the time?

Your post goes to show that it really does pay to wear one's seatbelt and keep the ROPS up at all times if possible. You just never know when something might happen! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Thanks for posting. I am sure that your sharing this experience will help others.

Glad to hear that you are OK and that all worked out well for you and the tractor. I was wondering if you think that the tractor being from North America and its being "Down Under" might have lead to its instability? You know, the reversing of the earths magnetic pull might not be correct for that machine. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

No it is fine. I drove it around in circles, to degauss the magnetic field, when I first got her.
I did think it may lead to the problem of her wanting to put her feet up. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was working on the bit already dug out.

I was leaving some rocks on the edge to use as road markers and I went back too far and collected one.

The bucket was on its way up ready for tipping (not that high)

She went in the time it takes to say "Oh! S..."
Next instant the view was sideways.

Backhoe was on, in the folded position.

When I started this road I figured that one way or the other I would go over at least twice.
First one I caught before it went. This time it was gone before I could react.

Thank God for seat belts and a ROP otherwise it could have been a different result.

It turned out to be just annoying and a bit of a walk to get the 4-wheel.

No harm and I continued work after checking all fluids etc.

Hah!

I rolled over my tractor, how annoying is that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is great to hear you say that. Thank goodness you are ok, thank goodness the safety features worked. Don't be annoyed, just be aware.

Hopefully the tractor did not suffer any dings, either, eh?

Did you have the rear tires filled? I am asking because I have done almost the same thing with my BX23 a couple of times and both times I thought the tractor was going over - but it didn't. I got the rear tires loaded when I bought it and I think that was what kept it upright. Both times I also had the loader down pretty low which probably helped.

I have to agree with you. Loaded tyres add weight down low and reduce the bounce of the tyres by damping the shocks.

I doubt if it would have gone if the front tyres had been loaded as it was the bounce back of the front tyre that tipped me.
I would load the tyres but I have to trailer the tractor to and from the block each day I work there and the weight is right on the legal limit of my 4-wheel now.

When I can leave the tractor there I will fill the tyres.

The operator's manual states not to add ballast to the front tires. I don't know why this is. It also says to remove the fluid in the rear tires when when the BT600 backhoe is installed, like that's gonna happen /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Does anyone know why you are not supposed to fill the fronts? My BX23 presently has only the rear tires filled, and it came from the dealer like that.
