Kubota BX23
I now have 17 hours on the machine. Continues to be an absoltue tank, and works hard. I decided to try removing the mid mount mower for the first time. I don't think Kubota could have made it much easier. All total about 5 minutes the first time. The ease of attaching the back hoe (5 min. or less), the loader (5 or less) and the midmount really shows they built this as a "System". Fo all prospective buyers...htese tasks are completely intuitive, and there are instructions for the backhoe on the machine. I do not have the manual yet, so all actions were blind first tries, and it really is that easy.

Got to agree. Had the loader and backhoe off and on a couple of times and it is real easy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Have 19 hours up now.

Got to agree. I changed BH for my Rotary Mower and it was an easy exchange. A level surface is a must though. Practice makes perfect.

Hey Bota Guy,
Looks like you have just recently registered with TBN. How did you get so many posts in so short a time? You gotta have more seat time on that 'Bota instead in front of the computer! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, we had record rainfall here in May. I couldn't get much seat time at all...which was unfortunate to say the least.

Amen on the level surface. Also, if you remove the BH on soft ground, put a few 2x6's under the stabilizers and other ground touchpoints. Found out the hard way - gravity's not my friend.

Ah! The happy puppy of youthful ignorance! After many different hints, tweaks, trials, and tribulations, I still don't have a satisfactory method for getting that dang mower deck back on my BX1500! Everything is easy for me except getting the driveshaft connected to the PTO. Putting the PTO selector in rear-only mode puts that PTO in freewheeling mode which helps a lot. Getting that thing to "click" into locked-in position is a pain in the BUTT. I have slightly arthritic shoulders and the stretch under the wheel to the PTO position can be painful. I take the mower deck off every single week due to my sons hiring out to help the neighbors with the front loader, and us also using the BX for mowing 10-15 acres a week when you add all the odd kids jobs up with our own.

I need a magnetic solution.

Dave, we just put our MMM back on. OFF was a snap--ON took some more effort. I plan to re-read the manual, but I suspect it gives us the right clue, if we only read it.

Like you, we struggled and struggled and couldn't see how to attach the PTO underneath. My son came up with the bright idea--"why don't you put that half on the shaft and we'll slide them together rolling the deck under?"

It was still a 2 person job, but it was MUCH easier. IIRC, the manual might even say to do it this way. You can install the rear half, and really tug and tug at it to make sure it is latched. Then, finding the wide space on the PTO shaft, line it up as you slide the mower under from the right side.

Worked good for us, but I don't plan to take the MMM off as much now--we had it off for dirt work. OR, if I do take it off a lot, I plan to buy a small wooden pallet deal on rollers, so I don't have to redo the lawn rollers each time.

Hope this helps.

Ron

I've tried the split driveshaft idea before and gave it up because of the difficulty in finding the wide space. But, I now think there's an easier way to do it and that maybe you're on to something here. I should paint a yellow stripe on each half so that the lining up is easier to estimate. As you know, with the PTO in freewheeling mode, that end of the shaft will be easy to turn.

Others have suggested different ways than yours but I'll give it a try the next chance I get.

Quick update on re-installing the Mid mount mower. It took about 7 minutes on the first try to attach the mid mount mower. Being inside on a hard level surface certainly helps. I did not find the PTO shaft hard to attach that part slipped right on. I did use a section of wood to put leverage under the deck to attach the 2 links. If I had to do this outside on the yard, it would take longer no doubt, fortunately I do this in the comfort of well lit shop at home.
