Mowing BX23 Mowing Height Adjustment

I thought the cutting height was controlled by the adjustable deck wheels with the deck "floating" as you mow. So, what role does the "mowing height adjustment knob" play.

The knob adjusts the level that the deck can drop. The wheels are just anti scalp wheels. I strongly recommend that you read, understand, and follow all procedures before operating your tractor or any implement on the tractor. The forums are not a substitute for reading the material that is provided in the operators manuals. Failure to follow the instructions in the manual can be harmful to the tractor and personal injury may be a result.

Junkman: I dont have the machine yet, so I dont have the book. I am a relatively new member so I didnt know there was a rule that says "if it is covered in the book dont ask". Sorry to have bothered you. Thanks

The MMM on the BX series are all floating decks. The wheels are anti-scalp as opposed to being gauge wheels. They aren't used for adjusting height nor for supporting the MMM on the ground. When properly set they should ride approx 1/4 to 1/2" above the ground. The adj knob just below the seat is how you set the height which makes it very easy to change settings. I typically mow at 3". IT adj's in 1/2 increments.

The 60" MMM has a self balancer built-in which keeps the MMM from scalping the lawn on inclines and irregularities.

The 54" doesn't have this feature and due to it's size it may not need it.

I recommend the 60" as it sticks out further away from the tractor which allows for closer cutting around trees etc as well as shortning the cutting turning radius.

I am very satified with the cutting performance of my BX23, it's as good or better than any L&G mower I've used.

Jerry, I dont think you need to apologize. Ask any question, one o f us will answer it whether it's in the book or not. There is a rotary knob between your legs on the deck, where you can dial-in a cutting depth from roughly 2-5 inches. This controls how far the arms that support the deck are allowed to drop. the anti-scalp wheels normally should NOT touch the ground. They wear out very quickly as they do not have metal bushings or bearings, so you only want them to roll occasionally when you hit high ground.
Guess I need to put my black hat on for this one.

What this knob does is set the height you want to mow so that the mower can't be lowered beyond that point so long as the knob remains in that setting.

You can however mow anywhere between that setting and the mower fully raised.

But it still don't stick out enough to mow and trim along ditches .

Why oh why don't somebody make an off set or telescoping Mid Mount Mower ?
