I am finally making my purchase this week I believe. Thanks to many of you with your thoughts and wisdom.

I am purchasing the BX23 - since its somewhat on sale with the new BX24 out.

I have the option to go with AG or Turf tires. I feel like the turf tires will have plenty of traction for what I am going to be doing since the tractor is pretty light anyway. I do have an area that can be a little moist that I will be clearing, but I really would rather not rip up the lawn if its not necessary. can anybody give me an idea? I am mostly going to moving things, stone, gravel, dirt and also taking up some sod.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Whatever you do, it will not cost that much to make it right if you buy the wrong tires...

I have a set of turf tires in my shed, with only about 25 hours on them and they will probably never go back on the BX. Bars are what I changed to. I don't have a problem with them when mowing, and frankly, I don't remember why I decided that I needed them. Probably because I tried to pull something and the wet clay turned my turfs to slicks.

Anyway, if you buy the set of four tires later as "whole goods" they cost about $300 or so, for the tires mounted on rims.

In all due respect to Henro I have turf tires and they've been on my machine for 650 hours since new. Yes two or three times the bars would have been better but many more times they would have been wrong for what I do. I like minimum damage to the area I work and so turfs do fine for me. Still plenty of grip at least 99 percent of the time.

I have ag tires on my BX23 and wouldn't have any other kind.
I don't find turf damage to be an issue.
I don't think turf damage becomes an issue until you get into the bigger heaver tractors.

The bar tires on my BX do cause a little damage while turning or if the ground is soft. They dont displace any dirt, just ruffle and pull up some grass.
If you have a fine manicured lawn, I would have to say go with the turfs. If your lawn is kinda rough and you have no aspirations of owning a golf green, then the bar tires will be fine.
The bar tires come into their own when you start pushing or pulling ground engaging implements. For everything else, I would think the turfs would do fine.

I am very happy with turf tires based on 20 hours or so on my B7800. I dug the nice sized hole to plant the large Live Oak shown in the linked slide show (with the help of my neighbor's walk behind trencher.) There are some captions that explain the process:

I was able to pull the tree out of the trailer and manipulate it around quite easily without tearing up the ground too much. I have done quite a bit of loader work so far with them as well and have no major complaints.

I have a Cub Cadet 27 horse tractor. I have Industrials on the front and turf tires on the rear. I also have chains for the back for the winter and any mud work. This setup works great for me as I also use this machine for mowing fields and do not want to tear them up in the spring or when it is really wet.

I have a BX2200 with turfs. I love the turfs because of how gentle they are on my yard. They still have plenty of traction for mowing my pond dam. Their biggest test will come up in a few weeks when I try to disc with them. My fingers are crossed. Like Henro said, if my turfs don't work, it won't break the bank to fix the problem. I was quoted last week for ag tires already mounted on rims for $296.
