Two weeks ago I changed the front axle oil, and something's been bugging me. The manual calls for a capacity of 5 quarts, and mine only took 4 quarts to fill.

Now, I did everything by the book, including breathers, both drains, waiting and then checking again, etc. I even tried manually turning the wheels (it was off of the ground), tilting it forward during draining, driving it for 1/2 mile (cocktail with the neighbor), then checking again. I was hoping that the hubs were just slow to receive their oil, and then eventually that last quart would go in.

How could I have not gotten that last quart out of there?

Anybody else have a similar experience?

Thanks
Jesse

I just checked my manual too (5 quarts) I'm not sure as my bx2350 is still new but I can tell you this. After a full day of mowing for the first time I had to add all most a quart. I thought I had a leak but none was found and it's staying right at the full mark now still after 19 hours. were did that Quart go? I wish I new..

I believe this is no different then when they are new. There are probably small pockets of air that need to work out, I'm sure after a few hours of use the fluid will need to be topped off. I wouldn't stress about it.

Did you measure the amount of fluid that drained out?? That would go a long way to answering your question.

When I did the front axle on my 2200, I just checked it a few days later and added a little to top it off.
If you can look in and see everything bathed in oil, you will be fine. If you are low, it will bind.

No, I didn't measure the oil I took out. I didn't have a good means to do it. (mixed with little bit of laziness... I could've found something.)

I'll just keep an eye on it.

Did you make sure that you removed all the plugs? You have filler and breather plugs that allow more oil to drain out when you change the oil. I use Super UDT now and it seems to flow out more when I change it.
