BX2350 HST FAN REPLACEMENT

   / BX2350 HST FAN REPLACEMENT #2
I'd "fix" it by getting a new one, cutting a slice into it and slip it on. I'd glue and clamp it to hold. I'd use high quality epoxy or Gorilla glue, perhaps. The reality is that the fan helps cool the housing, but I doubt it is essential whenever ambient temps are below 90F.

There are a couple of threads here in which folks have successfully use the cut a slit and glue method. That's what i would do. No doubt. Maybe someone will help you find those old threads.

Did you buy the KTAC insurance? It will cover the repair minus the $250 deductible. I am having mine replaced along with some other covered repairs on my BX 25. Up here we don't have top worry much if it is gone unless it is an 80 degree day (rare) and working the hydraulics hard. That this per the service manager at my dealer.

Those fans are vulnerable. If you have all that armor you can buy aftermarket you may keep it intact until ole man Murphy decides to visit. That creates more complexities for service though. Your dealer may charge an extra hour on your service if he has to fuss with the armor kit. I will buy an extra fan when mine is fixed and figure out a way to cut in half and probably bolt the two together for the next time. Every time I go to the dealer shop it is 160 miles in total travel for two trips, a half day lost on each trip, and 2-4 weeks in the shop not available for productive work. Little things like this are a lot cheaper to do my self. In three years my BX has not seen the dealers shop but I have done the equivalent of at least $3K repairs and maintenance myself with minimal down time.

Where are all those aftermarket guys out there not capitalizing on this common problem.

Ron

On another thread is a suggestion that you make metal blades and screw / glue them onto the hub. I tried that this weekend, expecting the worst (inadequate access, inability to get a decent fit etc) - but it was surprisingly easy. I made 5 sheetmetal blades (replacing the 10 that were there originally), each with a 1/3" tab; used the original stubs as guides; and used 2 sheetmetal screws and epoxy to put them on. The seem secure and survived WOT tests. The only surprise is the fan hub isn't a solid piece, but rather is only 1/8" or so thick where it connects to the blades. Notwithstanding it seemed to hold the screws ok.

I was disappointed that I broke the fan in the first place as I had installed the Brotek rear plate - but the determined stick found its way up there anyway and in a nanosecond the damage was done.

To our enterprising folks and service organizations out there, THE CHALLENGE:

Figure out how to make that fan into two pieces that bolt it on in a clamp mode. 5 min to change it out. I would stock at least two of them.

KTAC will replace the fan but the $250 deductible pays most instead of them. Plus the down time. I tried the scheme that has been posted but either my BX25 is different or I am missing something. Old guys like me can only lay under that machine for a short time and have limited strength and range of motion.
